Ketchikan Rainforest

Are there trails in the rainforest that visitors can walk along without a tour? I would like to explore a little bit of the rainforest, but with my physical limitations, I would only slow down any tour that I went on. Is it possible to explore it by myself?

The Inside Passage- is "rainforrest", so definately, yes you can take a walk on your own, in any port. :)

 

If you are open to getting a rental car in Ketchikan, there is an excellent independent I have used a few times, then drive yourself to Ward Lake and continue to Perserverence Trail. Just beautiful!!! Then you could do a side trip to Totem Bight, print out and take the Totem guidesheet with you.

A few more details on Totem Bight. You will be taking the Blue line bus, pick up is across from the Eagle Totem on the north side of the main downtown dock- to the left of the green visitor center, before the tunnel. Cross the street, bus sign on corner. Allow 3 hours for this trip.

Thanks Yukon and BQ for the information. This may be a good option for us. Can you take the bus to do the Perserverence Trail too or do you have to drive? If so what company do you use. I tried Alaskan rentals, but I don't think they are taking reservations yet. I sent them an email. Not sure if I want to do this or do a Kayak. Thanks again for the information.

You need a car. I put in a random 7-09 date and availability did come up.

Thanks BQ. I just got an email from them telling me the same thing. I did try it 3 different times yesterday and it kept saying no cars were available. Anyway it does work now. Obviously you feel it is worth it to rent a car or you would not have recommended it?
