Onboard Credit

Due to a price reduction, I will be receiving a significant onboard credit for my upcoming cruise.

Even with tips, I do not expect my onboard charges to be as high as the credit. Will I receive a check at the end of the cruise for the negative balance in my sail & sign account?

If not, I plan to get a cash advance at the casino to zero out my balance.

I believe that obc is not refundable. I think it is use it or lose it. I would also use my s&s in the casino to make sure I get it all.

That is what I thought. Well, better to lose the 3% fee for the cash advance, than to lose the entire credit.

Too bad we don't drink more.

Maybe you can turn that credit into winnings that you can take with you;) .

We just got an OBC for the Fascination it's an impressive...(drum roll)...$40! Oh well still time for more, and it is our first two Buckets O'Beer:cool: .

I just got my daughter an OBC of $160 - plus she was upgraded to an obstructed OV room after the OBC. I am very proud of myself (and Carnival had a thing or two to do with it lol). I did not even have to ask - the CSV was amazing every time I call. This time she upgraded my daughter to OV and gave the price reduction for a interior room - amazing customer service. I could not be happier with Carnival's customer service.

We have been using only ccl directly and love our rep. She calls us when the price changes, and just to say hi. Been very pleased.

We have a similar situation. I usually don't use the casino, so how do go about getting an advance at the casino to use up the OBC? Do they charge my S&S card and give me the cash less the 3% or do I get a voucher that can only be used in the casino?

If you are not a gambler, I think the easiest way is to use your sail & sign card at a slot machine. If you ask for $100, they will charge $103 to the S&S card. You can then cash in the $100 slots tokens at the cashier.

I do most of my gambling at the craps table. I have seen people get chips with their S&S card. You might need to show a picture ID. You can then cash the chips at the cashier.

How much OBC are we talking about here. I received a $240 OBC and had $140 of it applied to prepaid tips so not I have $100 left. There are only two of us so I am pretty pumped about it.

I have an OBC of about $356. There are three of us on this six-day cruise, so my tips will be $180. We will have a few drinks, buy a few pictures, a few gifts, and a soda card, so I expect to have a credit balance remaining.

Do not worry in the least! You will use it all and more :p We always find something to buy - you can get specialty coffees and pastries, or buy some souvenirs in the shops. If you are planning to buy photos, you will spend it al!

Okay I know this is a silly question, and it's not that it makes much of a difference, but I'm curious and it's driving me nutz...

When your cruise has a price drop, and you call and notify the PVP or TA, who decides if you get an OBC or a instant price reduction? Does it have to do with if cruise is paid in full? or past final payment date or what?

Is it worth still checking prices after final payment due date?

thanks vicki

But you can make purchases as gifts for people in the onboard shops too or do a shore excursion too ! Plus don't look at it as LOSING 3%... it was never $$$ you lost. When you think about it... it was a FREE :::perk::: you were given for lower rates than when originally booked ! How many places do you know of that are willing to do what cruiselines are doing for their customers regarding lowering costs AFTER the purchase was made ??? I say use the OBC onboard the ship so as to keep those ships still being able to offer the OBC program. I think if too many people do not use those OBC's, while on the ship, it could 1 day stop being provided ! Just my 2 cents on this topic

Hello TNcountrygirl, I'm originally from Nashville.

YES, you can still get a OBC. I just got one earlier this week and saved over $350, and our paid cruise takes sail next month over Thanksgiving. I think it may depend on how far out your sale date is and also on the PVP you are dealing with and maybe even the cruise liner. So I encourage you to check your rates and keep calling back. I called several times before I actually got an OBC due to a price reduction on Carnival.

Good luck to you.

When you check for price reduction do you look at the total of the bill or do you just look at what the cruise cost before taxes and fuel charges. I know some of you are thinking is this stupid question but I have never cruised before so I don't know. Sorry and thanks in advance.

I just look at the cruise cost. So far I have received a price reduction (before final payment) and I've received OBC twice totaling $300.

We paid for our cruise thru a travel agent . Can we still get get in on the price reduction? Do we have to ask our travel agent to call or can we call?

Debbie

You have to call the TA if that is who you booked with and hopefully the TA will say ok to calling it in. They will received less commission so they are not always cheerfull as you would hope.

Call CArnival and check your rates! I did and I just got a $370.00 OBC AND a room upgrade from an interior room to an OCEAN VIEW ROOM on an upper deck! I couldn't be any happier!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

You can only call Carnival if that is whom you booked thru.

You can take a look at the cruise cost as a guide, but you will need to look at the total cost (of the cruise) for the OBC. For example, we booked our upcoming December cruise when the fuel supplement was $5/day per person. Well, it is now $9/day per person. When the cruise fare dropped a couple of weeks ago, it was not enough to offset the additional fuel supplement. Now, the cruise fare has dropped again and it is finally enough for a small OBC.

We got our OBC after making the final payment. Called our TA and she took care of it. This was the second time we tried, first time they offered a cabin upgrade which we didn't like, but no money. Can't hurt to ask especially if you haven't made final payment. We have tried with NCL after final payment, but they are tight. Carnival seems willing to work with you. Good Luck
