Upgrade VS Upsell?

I'm sure these two terms are pretty self-explanatory but I just wanted to be sure I understood both.

 

We started out purchasing a BD balcony room on the Star. Several months later the prices fell so we received a 200.00 credit off our remaining balance. Another month went by and all the new bookings were receiving an automatic upgrade to the top cabin in that class so we were bumped up to a BA. Now, last week I called NCL again because of all the OBC and other deals. They couldn't give me any OBC so they upgraded me to an AF mini-suite at no charge.

 

I'm guessing my BA to AF was considered an official upgrade? If I had paid for it then an upsell? Now, considering they have already moved me up to the AF, am I probably out of luck hoping for the elusive (but always hoped)for "upgrade" call at the last minute???

If you got if for no extra money on your part, you got an upgrade! Congrats!

Nope, no extra charge so I guess I'm ahead of the game. :D
