My DW and I are cruising on the Glory November 22 to Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Martin. I can't seem to get excited about getting off the ship. We're not beachy people and the excursions just don't seem to be appealing. Anyone ever do a 7 day cruise and not get off the ship?

but I did do a 6-day and didn't get off the ship once. There were three ports...two I had been to many times and one I had no desire to visit.

Just relaxing on board for 6 days was great. Some may wonder why I took a cruise if I didn't care about the ports...it was just before Christmas, I really NEEDED a vacation and the price was unbeatable.

Perhaps look for independent excursions? The ports of call boards here usually have great suggestions. Maybe a historical type tour?

A lot of people cruise for the ship and not the ports. There's nothing wrong with that. It's your vacation, do what makes you happy! :)

I do understand what you are saying. I myself will probably not get off in Nassau BUT St Thomas and St Martin are just beautiful. If you don't want to do a ship sponsored excursion just grab a cab and ask for a tour of the island

If you don't want to do that at least take the sky tram up to Paradise Point in St Thomas for some of the most beautiful photo opportunities you will find. Then walk through the stores for some good bargains.

In St Martin the shopping is abundant too and I actually prefer to do my souvenir shopping there. Again I would at least take a tour by cab

Don't stay on the ship for these two ports of you have never been there. I think you would regret it

Happy Sailing!!!

Looks like you guys have a bunch of cruises 'under your belt', so if there is a port that doesn't interest you, stay on-board and take advantage of 'in-port 'specials'..! :p The Spa always has something... Naturally, the pools on the ship are virtually empty!:D

Will be our choice in Grand Cayman this December... ;) :p

We've been to Nassau twice and are planning on returning next year. Our plan is to do a Segway tour and then maybe a self guided walking tour. I'm looking forward to discover something more than the straw market and sorkeling in Nassau.

We have been to St. Thomas twice before and I could recommend that you could do a island tour. Moutaintop is quite impressive with the number of islands you can see from there. Plus you can get a little frozen bannana treat as well.;)

We were dissapointed in the shopping in St. Thomas as it wasn't too much different than most other ports. However, if you have the time, take the tram up to Paradise Point and have a couple of Bushwhackers.:)

I've never been to St. Martin but it is still on my bucket list.

The best place to discover the possiblities is the port of call threads. Have a great cruise.:D

Nothing wrong with staying on the ship. I do think though, while in port, you may feel like your missing something. I also am not a big beach fan. I do enjoy the pool and hot tubs. When we went to Nassau, we took the taxi to Atlantis. Saw the small aquarium and walked around the resort. The casino is very nice. We walked out towards the beach area so we could say we been there. Then we took the cab back to the ship to enjoy. We spent very little and can say we had a great time. As far as St. Maartin, we took the river taxi from the dock over to the shopping area. Did a little shopping, took some pictures and headed back to the ship to enjoy. Enjoy your ship. I could cruise to nowhere for days and not have a problem.

Usually after a few cruises that is what happens. We been on 12 since 2000 and we are heading back out in February. A few of the ports we will stay onboard-- but dont expect to have the shipto yourself. Last cruise we stayed onboard and were rather surprise on how many people stayed with us.

The casinos and stores are closed--and not many activites are planned during port time. We get off for a little bit so when we get back our land legs wont be so bad.

You won't forgive yourself if you don't. Hire a taxi driver for the day and tell them you want to see the island. They'll be happy to spend the day with you. We were in St. Thomas and St. Martin last year and loved those stops the best. We never went to a beach at either island. You must go to paradise point in St. Thomas and Megans Bay is breathtaking!!! Shopping is good, but if you don't want to shop there's plenty to see!

In St. Martin we took photos of the planes landing -- it was interesting to see the difference from the French and Dutch sides of the country.

Please go and let us know what you did and if you enjoyed it.

We did a excursion called views of St. thomas. Went up on the tram which was something I wanted to do and up to the highest point on St. Thomas to see the views and some other places. Then we had a local lunch in St. Thomas with local fare and yes after that and shopping went to a local beach where I just hung out, my cruise roomie snorkeled.

There are lots of things to do in ports not beachy. My sister wouldnt do the beach either and we find things to do too.

If you decide to stay onboard, it will be much quieter,,,although some things may be closed, you may actually enjoy the quietness of the ship,,,on our first (and only) cruise DH and I got off at Nassau, but came back much sooner than most,,,we had the pool to ourselves!!! woo hoo! It was a glorious thing!!

Or, you could just get off and walk for a while,,,,see what happens,,,stretch your legs as some have suggested,,,,whatever you do, relax and have a great time :) Holly

We always get off the ship...but it is your vacation, do what you want!

At least during the port days you can enjoy a quiet pool side beverage or a discounted appointment in the spa. Enjoy!

We did the same itinerary on the Glory (see link to our pics if you care in my signature).

St. Thomas we booked an independent daysail and it was FABULOUS! You can snorkel if you like, or just stay on board and enjoy the drinks, snacks and unique conversation. If you haven't tried that I would highly recommend it. I would honestly say it has been the most fun excursion we have done in all our travels. :)

We also rented a jeep and explored on our own in St. Maarten. If you haven't been to Orient Beach it's one of the best on the planet! And the restaurants on the marina in Marigot make you feel like you are in Europe rather than the Caribbean. Very unique experience for sure.

But it's your vacation . . . and we are going back to the Bahamas on the Imagination in December. . . . we might just stay on board and relax by the pool since we only have three days to chill out. Straw market was fine once, but no need to go back.

Have fun no matter what you decide!

I think it would be nice to stay on the ship while in port, we may do that next summer in Cozumel. It will be our third visit there in 12 months.

We do sometimes get off just for a bit and get back on early enough to enjoy some of the smaller crowds aboard.
