cruiserbryce Posted November 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2008 7 short blasts of the funnel followed by one long blast is the emergency signal on a ship
sail7seas Posted November 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2008 Don't all the ships sound the emergency signal during life boat drill? Seven short and one long are always sounded on ship's horn on HAL during drill. It becomes habit to count them and that is the point.

pba20493 Posted November 3, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 3, 2008 It means this ( 1 toot of the horn for each word ). GET (1) THE (2) HECK ( insert whatever word that starts with an F that you like :D ) (3) OFF (4) THE (5) SHIP (6) RIGHT (7) NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! ( the long blast ) Hope this helps. Just something that I thought up during the MUSTARD:p Drill. Yeah yeah I know its MUSTER. Tim

CDRMark Posted November 3, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 3, 2008 There are lots of signals ships make with their horns to communicate with other ships. Seven is the most I am familiar with, but I do not know when it became a standard emergency signal. Seven is unlikely to be confused with any of the other (1-5) short blasts. Here is the Coast Guard Reg on signals if anyone is interested: rule34
