Hey Kewlguy nice to see you again on the boards. We squeezed in another cruise for December lol. Travel Lover told me she invited you guys to join us.

We would cruise every other week if our schedule allowed it. We'll see if it's humanly possible to join you guys.

It sounds good to me but I have a question. If I tack a one or two day onto the end of a longer cruise would they take our luggage off at the end or would we have to carry it all off since it seems they expect you to carry your own for the short cruises?

I started this thread, and I think it's only right that I bring it full circle. We hemmed and hawwed (of that's the right spelling of the fake word) up until the prices went down literally moments before the one nighter out of NYC. Our (aforementioned) fabulous PCC got us an amazing deal on a Penthouse! OMG, yes, it was worthy of the accronym, OMG! We watched from the privacy of one of the ten front-facing balconies as the Gem left NY Harbor, in the bitter cold of winter. The ship passed the Statue of Liberty right at magic hour for some breath-taking pictures of her, then passed under the Verranzzano Bridge for another amazing shot, and a ten second video. A night of partying, a great meal in Magenta (one of the main dining rooms) Scallops and a Chinese salad for apps and stroganoff for dinner--not to be beat! We skipped dinner and headed off to throw some money overboard (i.e. gamble in the Casino), saw the show Colors, which I would (and am confident I will) see again on our next Gem adventure; headed up to the Garden Cafe for an amazing desert, and some where in there sang some karaoke in the Spinnaker Lounge.

We then staggered into bed in the wee hours of the morning, set a wake-up for oh-dark-thirty (that's 6:30 am to you) and took some more truly once in a lifetime (unless we do it again) photos of the ship coming back into NYC harbor. Breakfast in Cagney's was fabulous, one last stroll about the ship... By the way, did you all know that on deck 11, portside (leftside), forward there's an observation port where you can see the Bridge! THat's so COOL! It's apparently not open all the time, in storms and docking and emergencies and whatnot, but how cool is it to watch the ship being operated? I think it's just shy of my wish to "drive the boat" myself. Anyway, I think that was one of the last things we did before we collected our bags and "Freestyled" off the boat at the "whatever" time of 9:30ish. The night went so fast, but we did SO much, We both want to do a one-nighter again! What a wonderful night! One caveat! Prepare to spend 25 bucks a pop at the blackjack tables. They jack up the minimums for the one-nighters. Other than that, the answer to my question is YES YES YES there is plenty of time to whatever on the one night cruise, but make it an appetizer for a longer cruise: As, my signature shows, we're going on the Gem again a minute and half after this night of wonders.:D So bring along a change of clothes and a toothbrush (and a chunk of gambling cash) and c'mon in--the one-night-cruise-to-nowhere water's FINE!

Great to hear you had a good time. Were trying to get on the 1/24 sailing. What travel agency did you use to get your deal? The inside cabins are all booked. The prices have gone high for balcony.

Hi Debbie -

We booked directly through NCL's service. If you go to NCL.com they have the 800 number (that I cannot recall at this moment). Listen patiently as the recording tells you what they want you to hear, and press the option to speak to a PCC (that's "personal cruise consultant," to you). They'll be able to tell you directly if there are rooms available and what the truly best prices are, because there's no middleman. Now, be careful, because there could've just as easily been no more room at the inn. I think the one nighters they did last January sold out immediately (largely, I'll wager, due to the presence of Bobby Flay in the kitchen and John Legend on the stage). But do call NCL directly and get yourself a Personal Cruise Consultant! It is well worth the time spent on hold on the NCL hotline...:D
