How to handle room service tips

Was on a 13 day cruise on QM2 in March then a TA in October. Enjoyed Room Service several times. In my experience they didn't hang around for a tip. They were in and out so quick!!!!

We were Princess Grill. So my advice is if you want to tip then have it ready and BE QUICK!!!

Yes, definitely have your money ready.

I'm used to NCL where they call about 5-10 minutes before they show up but they don't do that on Cunnard. If it's for breakfast, make sure to put a wake up call about 15 minutes in advance (they sometimes show up a little early) and have your money ready.

When I got ''caught'' still sleeping, I had to ask the delivery person twice to wait while I was opening the safe to get the tip and I felt bad about keeping him waiting. I made sure to have my money in hand the next times!

How does one handle room service tips on Cunard? I'd like to hear how various people handle it.

Must admit never thought about it= have never tipped the person providing room service on the 7 cruise lines we have been on.

Have never felt a tip was expected, including our 2005 QM2 Pricess Grill cabin

Thanks for asking. Will make an enquiry on our upcoming Nov 21 on board QM2, but since we have been bumped up from Princess Grill to Queens Grill may not be able to find out

JP2001, it was your post reviewing your cruise that prompted me to ask this question. By the way, thanks for the enlightening review. The other cruise lines we have used have either been all inclusive or our stewardess (tipped at end of cruise) who delivered room service. I'd like to hear other opinions on this topic regarding Cunard room service tipping.

I didn't tip separately for room service on QE2 since it was delivered by my steward who I tipped extra at the end of the trip.

On QM2, I always pulled out a couple dollars when I put ou the door tag and left it on the sofa arm for easy access. I'd grab the money while the waiter was putting down the tray and hand it to him as he was finishing setting it out. The waiters certainly didn't position themselves as though they were expecting a tip, and seemed to be genuinely appreciative when given a tip.

My breakfast was always exactly on time, every day.

Ah, I miss room service.

I think a small tip was customary for room service either in a hotel of on a ship but, of course, if it is your steward who delivers it, I guess there is no problem about tipping him at the end. Since it was not him on my cruise and the person changed every time, I think it's important to tip the person right away since you may never see this person again

I guess it really depends how many items you order. Personnally (but I don't know if I am right), I usually tip 2$ when I order for 1 person. For breakfast for two, I would give 3-4$. I used to give more but figured that if everybody gives only 2$ per order, it would still make a good amount per hour.

I really don't know if it's true but I heard here on CC that people who deliver room service do it on their free time to get tips. True or not, room service is an extra service and extra service deserve a tip IMHO.

Further to my previous responses, you all got my interest sufficiently tweaked, that I reread the material Cunard sent Gayle and I for our up coming cruise

Page 41 of the Guide states- Discretionary Hotel and Dining Charge- "The Hotel and Dining charge will be shared amongst those staff who help provide and support your voyage experience, including the waiting staff, stateroom stewards, accomodation staff, buffett stewards and others. Casino and Spa personell do not share in the Hotel and Dining Charge"

Accordingly the staff bringing your meals to the cabin are included in your daily hotel and dining charge. However, when we encounter exceptional personal service, we often provide an additional tip directly to the person providing that little extra to make our cruise memorable

I put $2 in my robe pocket when I put out the room service order at night or make sure I have $2 handy when we order during the day.

My husband has MS and it is so delightful to have a smiling person deliver our food without the hassle of having to go fetch it ourselves!

Everyone is right though-- have it ready- no one hangs around for it but all are appreciative. I know I am!
