Return flight from FLL is 1045am too early?

Just wondering if I would be pushing it if I booked a flight out of FLL when cruising out of the Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal with a 1045am flight? I have to be home by a certain time and this is the only one that works. I may not be able to take this cruise if I can't get home by that time.

For those who just want to spout off, I know Carnival says earliest flight time is 1130am, but I would do self assist and just hop in a taxi to the airport. I know I run a risk if the ship is late or what not, but all of the cruises I have been on have started to disembark prior to 800am.

For those experienced with the FLL area, please help me out here.

Platinum member... probably ok... Anyone else... risky...

All it takes is one foreign national to screw up the whole thing... and God forbid you are on the cruise that has to re-check all of the crew.....

Good Luck

I don't think Canadians can do self assist.

I was off the ship by 8am w/self assist..so its doable. As long as the ship get in on time and there are no customs issues.

If this is your only way of doing the cruise, you really dont have any other options.

That happened this Monday morning onboard ELation, they kept calling 1 person to report to Customs and she finally checked in, we had to wait until she checked in until they would start disembarkation. Probably lost 1 hour in waiting.

Fort Lauderdale is the only place I would attempt this, as the port & airport are very close. Some things I would do in preparation:

-If possible, check-in online the night before for your flight

-Make sure you're in the first group off the ship - emphasize that you're on an international flight

-As little luggage as you can manage with

-Research any possible alternate flights if you miss this one, and have the info handy in case you need to rebook at the airport

Possible. Daughter and I were on the Miracle this past Jan. I am VIP and we self disembark. Off by 0730, in airport before 0800 and in the air for the 0900 flight. We did not book the 0900 but 1130. We were just lucky and everything fell in place.

If the ship makes it to port on time and if debarkation happens on time ....no problem.......Notice the two ifs.....;)

Do you like to play in the casino????

As a West Palm Beach resident who has taken several ships out of Port Everglades, I would say that your odds are better than betting red or black at the roulette table of making your flight :D.

Having said that, just remember to always bet with your head, not over it .

Here's something to consider. You say you have to be home by a certain time. What happens if you're not home by that time? Is the downside something so bad that you can't risk it? (Like losing your job) If the downside is that bad, then I'd recommend not taking the cruise.

Even if you're off at the airport for your flight on time there could be thunderstorms in FLL, mechanical problems, and weather problems in another part of the country that could make you not get home on time.

So true, our last FLL flight, we were with a group of 12, because of a thunderstorm they were re routing passengers and canceling fights, 6 of us made it out on the last flight ( i think because we had already boarded the plane and we had a brave pilot LOL!) 2 made it on a later flight and 4 had to spend the night in Ft. Lauderdale because they couldn't get another flight out until 6am. We had car pooled to LAX so those of us who made it out, had to wait for those who didn't, at LAX.

Hope I'm not spouting off but I wouldn't risk it. We've had issues before. If you decide to try, have a few alternate flights printed out for backup. Maybe you can check how many ships will be coming in before and after you and that might help you with your decision. I don't like worrying about making a flight; before, the cruise or after. Good Luck !
