It's here: http://www.carnival.com//Deck_Plan.aspx?shipCode=VI&deckCode=4

Your link showed it as the Oxford Bar. It must have changed names.

OK it's on Deck 4, where I rarely if ever ventured.

Yes they changed the names

when Victory was put on the Eastern Caribbean loop...San Juan to Barbados and back.

Suddenly it was Neptune's Way and Caribbean Lounge..

Wow!

Now that I'm back from Fascination, I can devote all my energy to planning for Victory in May.

I must go back and re-read the posts to see what excursions produced these beautiful views and sights!

This cruise is going to be DD's graduation surprise, but I so want to show her these pics! Knowing I have all this to look forward to will get me through the upcoming tax season. :)

Thank you both so much for sharing with us!

Recommendation for a beach day in Barbados, aplmac?

We are 4 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler.

Chairs, umbrella rental and beach bar appreciated. Not too crowded.

Carlisle Bay...

CBay-4.jpg

..is not far from your ship.

The Port's just West of Bridgetown...and Carlisle Bay's just East of Bridgetown!

This is the beach that Boatyard is located on

but you don't necessarily have to pay $15/20 to go thru Boatyard's entance

although that 15-20 bux will get you stuff like a chair a drink, use of the showers etc.

Lobster_s_umbrellas.jpg

Beaches are legally free, on Barbados...just a matter of finding an access

-there's one just 50 yds. beyond Boatyard, near another cool joint called Lobster Alive

use your imagination as to what this place is all about ..lunch?

Lobster_lookout1.jpg

My point is... Carlisle bay is 2 miles long ..a big sweeping curve of a beach

and you can make it as busy or as quiet as U like

by your proximity/or not.. to Boatyard and other places along its fringes!

Your other choice might be ACCRA, or Rockley Beach as its real name is..

That's a little ways down the South Coast, prob about 15 mins. away.

A popular beach and nowhere near the 2 miles of Carlisle

it can be a bit crowded at times

but when you see pics like these..

..you'll understand why!

We came off the pier at Roseau, Dominica in rain

coming down hard enough to seek shelter in a bldg. somewhere near the base of the pier.

While sheltering and waiting for it to stop(less than 5 mins)

I spotted this ornate (Victorian monument? of sorts) in the courtyard nearby

so I took a photo..

Roseau-051.jpg

I have since been unable to find out what it's about.

It must serve some purpose...

presumably to commemorate some aspect of Dominica's former British Colonial existence.

I'm guessing there's a plaque attached to it, saying something

and I meant to have a look, once the rain was done

but forgot to, and we quickly went on our way without intended information.

Does anyone know??

aplmac,

Thanks for the beach photos in Barbados. Lovely. I've posted a link to this thread in the Victory 1/18/2009 Roll Call. I've been on the Victory once before and must say, your photos do it justice. Of course, there's nothing like actually being there in person, feeling the warm sun and smelling the surf...:D

If I see this RED ornament, I will try to find out what it is. Looks like it may be some sort of alter adornment:confused:

I spotted this ornate monument in a Dominica courtyard

so I took a photo..

Roseau-051.jpg

I posted the same query over on the DOMINICA Port of Call board

and have now received a response.

It seems this monument is in acknowledgement of the slave trading

that occurred on the very slab where it's mounted.

Additionally, this slab was also used in years past for public punishment and executions.

And so this monument would seem to be a celebration that Dominica has now risen above all that.

I'm hoping for more details

but as it stands, we know much more than we did a few hrs. ago.

Thanks for posting these incredible pictures of the Victory. My wife and I sailed on Victory from Charleston to Freeport and Nassau from Charleston in 5/26/2008, and now I'm lusting after a Caribbean cruise.

See our pix at http://americansabroad.blogspot.com/, scroll down to the bottom and click on the "Bahamas Cruise" picture to view the album.

Thank you BOTH for sharing your unbelievable pics and great review!

Brings back memories of BOTH the Victory in 2007, and the Legend in 2005, where we went to Barbados!

Barbados, so far, in eight cruises, was our favorite day. It may have been because we took such a fun tour of the Island and a stop at a wonderful beach. I saw some of the most amazing scenery ever!.

Thanks again!

I don't want to hijack this, and I have been doing plenty of reading on the POC boards, but I thought I'd ask here, too.

I'm looking for shore excursions (prefer independent over Carnival), for Dominca, Barbados, Antigua, and St. Kitts.

Happened to be watching the 2nd Pirates of the Caribbean movie last night and decided to check to see where it was filmed. Sure enough, that gorgeous tropical island was Dominica!

I'm looking for island tour types of excursions. With the port-intensive itinerary, and all ports being New-to-Me other than St Thomas, I want to see the islands but not be exhausted by Day 3 from activity-type excursions. I'd like more than just a beach day, but some beach time would be welcome (just not exclusively).

All recommendations would be appreciated!

I sailed Glory in May and I know that there are differences in the Conquest-class and Triumph/Victory, but they sure look the same to me! It's always nice to board and already know your way around a ship.

I booked during the P1S sale and got one of the end forward "inside" cabins that has a window overlooking the "secret" deck on Empress. Any photos of those special cabins also would be appreciated.

I'm looking for shore excursions (prefer independent over Carnival),

for Dominca, Barbados, Antigua, and St. Kitts.

I just engage the nearest taxi/van driver and go Wherever

but then I live in these islands and anything I get to see is good enough for me

(I'm not yer average N.American tourist)

At St.Kitts we got a half-day tour with a bit of an overbearing pompous(ex-cop) taxi-driver

BHill-148.jpg

down the West Coast to Brimstone Hill

via Caribelle batik factory, a Carib petroglyph, etc.

we were back on board for a late lunch around 2 p.m.
