mizpriz Posted November 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2008 We are leaving in a week for the Ruby Princess and trying to keep our luggage down to a minimum. Are the laundry facilities readily available or are there usually long waits. That may determine how we pack  Thanks for your help! fitzany1 Posted November 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2008 I suggest if you don't want to have to wait be there when they open of a morning (ships I have been on close at certain times). Kay
Iamcruzin Posted November 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2008 On the Caribbean Princess I assume that they were open 24hrs. Well, I checked at 2:00am on the way back to the room and it was open. There were only 2 washers and 2 dryers. I packed powder detergent in ziploc bags a few fabric softener sheets, a stain stick and a roll of quarters. The washer and dryer cost a dollar each. They did sell soap and there was a change machine but the change machine did not work all week. I did wash at around 5:00pm on a Wednesday. I timed it right because there was only one other person doing wash at that time and it was in the rinse cycle. I just waited until her loads were done washing. Druke I Posted November 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Usually on Princess ships, the self-serve laundries are closed 10PM/7AM or somesuch.
willysgrandma Posted November 28, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2008 We have never had to wait around for a washer or dryer on any ship. And we usually wash on sea days, too.
JerseyGuys Posted November 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2008 One tip. At least on the Cariibean Princess all of the laundry rooms are not exactly the same . On Aloha deck the laundry room was simply two washers and two driers. Yet down on the Emerald deck there were at least 6 washers and 6 dryers in the room. In other words check out the facilites on the floors above and below you. And dont forget to bring coins in case the change machines are out. Devil Dog Posted November 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Once you become Elite it's all free. We think that's the best perk of them all. we put out laundry and dry cleaning every morning. :D
mizpriz Posted November 28, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Thank you all for your great suggestions. We will heed them and plan on packing minimally:D
Sea Hag Posted November 28, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2008 We only used the laundry facilities once on ship, and I guess we chose the wrong time because it was a zoo. Never again. I'll either pack enough clothes or I'll send them out to the ship's laundry to be done. Vacation time is way too precious to spend any of it in a laundry room.
