When QM2 is halfway across the Atlantic she is said to be IN the Atlantic.

If a person is swimming IN a pool ON QM2, when she is IN the middle of the Atlantic, is that person swimming IN the Atlantic or ON the Atlantic?

Well... if I'm not mistaken the pools are filled with seawater, right?

 

If so, then you could say that you're swimming in the Atlantic, on the Atlantic! :p
