Booking on board costs me $$$$

I know that there have been many comments on the advantages-disadvantages of On board booking. Just received a new (at least to me) twist.

Booked Century while on Solstice. Since near cruise date I had to pay total amount,no problem.

First day off ship I noticed a major price drop and wished to upgrade to a Sky Suite.

Told by one agent that since I paid on onboard I could cancel without losing my ENTIRE payment. Another agent told me I could change, but at a significantlly additional price (not discounted price in effect). Now I know why the Furture bookings agent on the ship said that she was busy, but made few actually bookings.

My lesson- Don't book on board close to cruise date, it locks you in. Don't book on board if you are a stockholder, after Dec. 31st you can't combine credits. Book on board if you are satisfied with the price and a drop won't upset you and if you are not a stocholder.

Just needed to vent.
