GrannyLorr Posted December 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Have I missed any comments on the name of the newest Seabourn ship? Just received my latest "Herald"....we are usually last to receive it.....anyway I dont like the name.....Seabourn Sojourn...:p
SantaAna,CA Posted December 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Granny, I heard about it while on the Legend.....I have to say I don't think it's as "lyrical" as The Odyssey. So I'm with you, it doesn't "wow" me. I did like the article in the Herald about the names that were suggested. Pretty funny. Especially the person that suggested it be called "The Odyssey" (as they pointed out, someone wasn't keeping up with current events!) CruisinMatt Posted December 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2008 I like it. Given the definition, I think it's fitting!
wripro Posted December 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Frankly, I don't care what they call it as long as they keep the standards at the same high level.
seapenarth Posted December 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2008 Have I missed any comments on the name of the newest Seabourn ship? Just received my latest "Herald"....we are usually last to receive it.....anyway I dont like the name.....Seabourn Sojourn...:p A most disappointing name especially as I did not include in my 20+ well thought out names. Seabourn Sojourn does not flow. It`s a messy sound. You`re on the button GL. ;)
GrannyLorr Posted December 29, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted December 29, 2008 Im sure my husband wont even be able to pronounce the name :o(dont tell him I said that)....so might have to be like Macbeth.....just call it "That ship"......
Seabourn-nail Posted December 30, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 30, 2008 The only thing I like about the name is that there is a likeness in writing: the second part of the word: "journ" and "bourn". But it is a pity that the pronunciation is completely different. I liked some of the names I entered better as well! I looked more in the history of the "Odyssey" and found some names that are also from that period, but with a Roman/Latin back ground. Since the ship is being built in Italy! Well, a pity, but nothing more than that! Happy 2009! Marja
Tillylovesseabourn Posted January 1, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 1, 2009 yes, I was most disapppointed with the name, considering some of the great names offered, and the fact mine wasn't picked and I didnt win the cruise!!!!!!! Never mind there'll be others to name,I hope!! rogier21 Posted January 2, 2009 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2009 After Odyssey I expected something like Neptune. Very cliche, but you have to keep the pact :)
wripro Posted January 2, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2009 Wouldn't Iliad more logically follow Odyssey?
Seabourn-nail Posted January 3, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2009 I also suggested names like: Ulysses, Aeneis (the Latin equivalent of Aeneas' adventurous travels, like the Odyssey is the Greek version) and similar ones. But no such luck! Marja
Host Dan Posted January 11, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Reading up on the word "Sojourn", other than meaning "journey", another meaning is "temporary stay". Sort of like Seabourn saying "its time to get off the ship!" :D Another thing, I dare anyone to try and say "Seabourn Sojourn" 5 times fast! :D Host Dan
wripro Posted January 11, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Dan, I think I'd have better luck saying it after a couple of martinis.
