The new deck plans have nothing to do with the dry dock. Most, if not all, RCI ships have reconfigured deck plans effective after April 24. Not because of any refurbishment but becuase of some recategorization of their cabin categories.

We are sailing 6/6/04 7 day on the Mariner, summer prices are always higher, but when you have kids in school that the only time we can sail.

I am reading lots of numbers but I am still not sure what price constitutes a good deal! Still a bit confusing to me.

I think it is a great question! I am looking to book a cruise for spring break of 2005. I want a balcony and there would be 2 adults (my husband and myself) and our 10 yearold son. I have searched multiple websites and the price ranges from 3700-4100 and that doesn't include air. We are looking at Mariner of the Sea departing 3/27/05 (Easter Sunday) out of Port Canaveral. I just got a response from a travel agent saying they could do it for 3000...still sounds expensive compared to what I am reading on theses boards. I did contact cruisequick and am waiting for a response.

Unique-Tinsel- I think the best way to know if you are getting a good buy on a cruise is to look at every source for cruise purchases. I keep a little journal as I look writing down the company and their rates. I make sure that I list in the rates the government taxes and the port charges. I then check the week that I am looking at, the cabin category, the same ship and the same port of call for my comparison. This will tell you the "average" rate for that cruise and you will know a good deal when you see one. The best deals will be had if your dates of travel are flexible, the port, the ship, the itinerary, and the cabin choice are all flexible as well.

I guess I am on the right track as that's what I've been doing. It just seems to take alot of leg work!! "Every source" is such a broad category. Is there a travel source that cross compares agency prices that anyone knows of? I've seen this with other areas of the travel industry,just never for cruises.

Okay, first the answer. On my upcoming 12 day panama canal cruise, 10/18/04, seranade, $1463 pp (after C&A discount) including taxes & port charges (w/o air) for E2 on center of hump on deck 8. But I didn't count the $200 credit for booking on board (figured that just about covered the tips).

I always book my cruise at least 1 yr ahead (except on Princess, who gives best prices to last minute shoppers). Although 9/11/01 through prices off a bit, I use prices from 2 years former to find what is good rate for the cruise I want to book. I'm looking to book asia cruise this year for 2005, but SARS scare last year knocked off most cruises so I am not sure what is good price. Who can tell? I do know that with Celebrity, RCI and RSSC it is better to book early. With Princess, it is better to book late.

I have cabin 1388 (Deck 10, Cat D1) booked for August 29th on Mariner through CruiseQuick. Total price when booked at end of Feb was $3148 (including taxes and port). Price dropped in the middle of March and they reduced it for me. Price dropped again around 4/11, and they reduced it again. Right now, my total price for 3 in this cabin is $2653 ($1014 for #1 & 2 and $625 for #3). I also have a C&A coupon that will reduce my final price by another $105 (after CQ's 16% cut). I am cruising right at the end of the higher summer rates. Price for the same itinerary, same cabin 2 weeks later is much less! School is not a factor in my choice as my son graduates this year and is not going to college, and my daughter is homeschooled. I could have saved money by going at a later date, but the 29th is my daughter's 14th b-day and she is so excited about cruising on her b-day! I chose the top deck cabin with a balcony because it has a sleeper sofa for my 6"1" son instead of the pullman bed. I did not want anything over my head! Hi,
We paid approx. $3250 for 2 people for AOS May 30, Memorial day week for a E1 balcony, but this is including air from GSP in SC (which isn't a major hub that we get great prices from), ports, ship and air taxes, transfers, and insurance.
This is a $100 balcony discount and $125 C & A coupon, too. Which, including the air, isn't a bad price, I thought for that time of year and a holiday week at that.
We usually sail our long cruise in Oct/Nov for better pricing, but we're traveling with friends, so we paid the extra.
