ImPeaches Posted January 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2009 Hi everybody, My husband and I are starting to plan our first cruise and want to do a small luxury line in the Mediterranean. At first glance, comparing Silversea to Seabourn, it appears that, unless you spring for the Owners' Suite or the Classic Suite, Seabourn's balconies are really tiny---just enough room to stand and look over the railing. It looks like Silversea's, however, are good sized teak decks with enough room for furniture. Comments from anyone as to why this is, and does Seabourn make up for this lacking in other areas? Thanks!
Rare A Tucson Guy Posted January 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2009 You are right on the balcony issue. For me that is a deal breaker and I would never take a cruise without a real balcony. I understand Seabourns new ship will have real balconies and I may then try them.
duct tape Posted January 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2009 My husband says I am a "veranda snob"! We will try the new Seabourn ship this summer. We love our SS verandas.
ltsally Posted January 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Seabourn is a fine line, with terrific service. But....the Silversea verandahs ARE terrific. SS also takes the award for their bathrooms - waaay nicer than seabourn.
wripro Posted January 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Bathrooms and verandahs will both be terrific on the Odyssey as I'm sure they will be on the Silversea Spirit.

Thanks! On our Seabourn sailings we have not missed not having a verandah. The reality is that if we want to go outside in a matter of a minute or two we can go from our room to an outside deck. For those who need fresh air in their rooms then they tend to opt for those rooms where you can open the sliding glass door. The existing Seabourn ships are very unique as they only carry a maximum of 200 passengers. The new Seabourn Ships will have plenty of verandahs but will be larger in that they can carry up to 450 passenger. Keith
lord of the seas Posted January 6, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2009 The important point here is that you want to try the Med.The best ships for the Med are Seabourn which are smaller and tend to get much better positions when berthing. The staff are also the best out of the two. You will ofcourse enjoy both lines.
