Shogun Posted January 14, 2009 Author #29 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Hi There Folks, Been bitten by the sand bug from hell, massive lump on leg, other half has loads of small bites, St Maarten yesterday , first time there with onlu us in port greatr loads of space, shops were nice and quite, bad news is they are building a massive cruise port, so that they can handle 30,000 according to the captain, seems a lot but 6 mega ships and he would be right, today Tortola we are tendering as port is full, will stay on ship to late pm, no point going ashore if 8,000 others there Tortola can handle these numbers. Drinks on plane wine with meal and one drink was free. Computer guy offering one to one teaching so he is here Cabin we have the oddest shaped inside, door is at an angle, open it dance passed wardrope, quick 360 to get to shower, climb over bed to get to drawers, all very odd, TV is old style, more storage than on some bigger cabins but no chair. Formal last nigh Captain made his speech intoduced more of the senior crew than some, got extra nibbles sent to table from Carlos, he is the best other half missing dinner a few nights ago he spotted her on deck a day later knew her name and knew she had missed dinner and asked after her. So far I would say this is turning into on of the better cruises, very nice mix of people, first time cruisers and old sea dogs, may be with so many Brits we think alike so less conflict , who knows. robanddiane Posted January 14, 2009 #33 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Hi robanddiane.. what date are you travelling and where are you flying to? We fly out on 18th April to Barbados. We have done Barbados twice before with P&O although not from Newcastle and as Shogun has mentioned it is so easy with no immigration. Are you travelling with us on that one. t200she Posted January 14, 2009 #34 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Hi again.. unfortunately we are not flying out of Newcastle. We are travelling out to Montego Bay on the 14th February from Manchester. It would have been great to leave from Newcastle, but when we booked that option was not available. I don't if this is like your cabin but this is the one we had on the Sea in October. I think it would have worked better in twin bed config. Shogun Posted January 15, 2009 Author #38 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Hi Folks, Our cabin is on A Deck and is an ii grade. Went to the Baths at Virgin gorda, best bit was the trip itself flew over bit painful everytime boat hit the water as we were flung out of our seats. But reat fun. Virgin gorda is very nice so glad that we got to see it. Chefs table last night, again after being on so many waiting lists so nice to have made it, so much food, everyone in the dinning room as the lobster tails and steaks were set on fire, you could here them asking what was going on. Very nice to get photos and cook book at the end along with a rose for the ladys at the table. Samana today went whale wating and got to see them, one came up so close that it was the noise of it blowing that made us turn around and there she was. CC dinner to night, do not think an officer will join us as ship is being aduited, however she is looking good. From Exploers you can see the front desl, just two blokes behind the desk chatting, no complaints, this has ben a very quite , nice cruise the way cruising is meant to be. Some rain today but not much. Food very British, but I think US friends are finding that little bit different but to there likes. yours Shogun
haggis Posted January 16, 2009 #39 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Nice to hear the ship is in fine condition and they are feeding you well. Like yourselves, we are visiting Saman and I was considering doing the whale watching trip. Question is, was it worth it? Do me a favour would you. If passing the ATM some day soon, could you tell me what rate we are getting for our £'s. Look after that ship now. 8 days to go for us. Shogun Posted January 16, 2009 Author #41 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Hi There, British Food, Hot Deserts Bread and Butter Pudding, Steak And Kidney Pie etc, But do not worry standard Princess Fare still on offer, Head Chef is from Canada, very nice bloke. Last night CC dinner no officer was able to join but did get a meassage from PSD, Maitre D spend time with us and gave us extra, of menu food, as it was Lobster night they also brought use extra plates full of Lobster tails, all in all a very nice meal with good company, On returning to my cabin there was a bottle of wine from the ship. Whale Trip, Did see whales both in morning and afternoon tours, these are hump backs, so there blow, hump there backs and dive for 20 minutes, trying to get a photo is hard as you only have seconds to snap away, all that I have spoken to said Samana itself is a waste of time, you must do a tour or stay on ship. Sea Day, DECK POLICE on patrol, handing out tickets, about time Princess did this. So far this has this has been the most relaxed cruise I have every been on, every one passengers and crew are so nice. Four girls manning front desk but no one needing there services. yours Shogun
TULIP9 Posted January 16, 2009 #42 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Glad to hear cruise is going well as we are on the one immediately following yours. Can you let me know if many men are wearing tuxedos on formal night and do many have white jackets? This should help me decide wether to take my Black dinner jacket or not. Shogun Posted January 17, 2009 Author #49 Share Posted January 17, 2009 Hi Folks, The Deck Police are two of the Deck Attendants who tag your chair with a luggage tag which has a note saying your stuff can be collected from deck 12 etc, they write the time on the ticket, if you are not back in your chair by the time they do there next patrol they lift your stuff. So today three times I was not in my chair when they patroled but I was there on there next so after each ticket so my stuff was not removed. Just won at the Casino not happy won on a progressive machine so got the jackpot, but could of got less for less points as progressive was won last week and had not had time to build up. yours Shogun
