Thanks for the wonderful information. So you are saying Accra is best of all it sounds like? What should i expect to pay for a cab there and back for my husband and I? Do I need to have to driver pick us up or is it easy to get a cab? Is there any great local food right near the beach or place to get refreshments? Thanks so much!

Thanks for the wonderful information. ===> You're very welcome!

So you are saying Accra is best of all it sounds like? ===> All things considered, yes!

What should I expect to pay for a cab there and back

for my husband and I? ===> I have my own car, here on da islan' -don't use taxis, sorry!

Do I need to have to driver pick us up or is it easy to get a cab? ===> Bus back?

Is there any great local food right near the beach or place to get refreshments? ===> Definitely!

It's hard to beat Accra/Rockley for a number of reasons...it's only about 15 mins. away from the Port..

..it has food stalls and Chefette fast-food right nearby... little beach bars,too.. plus chair and umbrella rentals,

-NO harassing vendors- (basic)shower and changing facilities

and a bus stop right near the fast-food place, so the adventurous can bus it back to the Bridgetown area

for (the equivalent of..) U.S.$ 0.75 per person, at the end of your beach day!

Not adventurous? There's a taxi stand right there

not to mention some small shopping to be had at Quayside Mall

about 150 yards down the street,if that.

Is the per close to Bridgetown ? If so, it sounds like you can take public transit to Rockley Beach. Is this practical or would you recommend taking taxis ? Also, what is the cost the the chair and umbrella rental ?

Thanks in advance

Please allow me to say that I am DROOLING over those gorgeous beach photos!

Looks as if Accra will be IT!

Just curious, Bottom Bay also looks divine. Would it be difficult/expensive to do both in one day? We'll have nine hours in port.

This will be our first visit to Barbados. Besides spending time on a stunning beach, can you suggest anything else that's an absolute MUST?

Thanks so much!

I also would love some info on taxi fares and more info on the bus? Is their a bus stop by the pier to go to the beach? Do they take U.S. dollars? And how much is reasonable for umbrella/chair rentals?

And can anyone recommend a relatively cheap private tour that would include touring some of the island and some beach time?

TIA!:)

I just read this on another thread about Accra/Rockley:

just returned from our cruise which included a stop in barbados. we went outside the terminal area gates where there were lots of cabs and asked for a price for the four of us to accra/rockley. all of them said $30 for the 4 but finally we found a driver who said he would charge $20 and then frowned at the guy next to him who was charging $30 and kind of scolded him for charging so much. when he dropped us off, he said he could also pick us up and to pay him at the end for the whole thing. he showed up at the appointed time and paid him on the return.

the beach itself was great that day. we rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for each couple for $30 total.the young man with the chairs was very helpful and polite setting us up. there were rolling waves and the water was warm. across the street is cheffette for rotis, fried chicken, and ice cream. there are kiosks with drinks and snacks for sale on the beach. we also strolled along the boardwalk, but it was getting pretty hot by the afternoon so we didn't go too far.

I am not sure if that is a roundtrip price or one way though. I would assume it is round trip.
