smoking side?

We understand there is a smoking side of ships. We have a guarantee (so no specific assignment) but definitely want the no-smoking side, since we have a balcony. Does anyone know which is which on the Emerald and how we might seek a preference? DH only has only one lung (due to what is called an Ohio/Mississippi River lung disease). We just don't need the second-hand smoke.

All cabins and balconies on Princess ships are smoking ( at the descretion of the passengers occuping the cabin). When you hear the term "smoking side", it most likely referrs to the side of the public rooms that smoking is allowed. There is no smoking in the dining venues, Princess Theater, hallways, Promanade, and the Piano bar. Other no smoking areas vary by ship. Smoking is allowed on the port side of most lounges and the casino.

Hope this helps.

Smoking is permitted in all staterooms and on balconys regardless of port or starboard. On the open public decks (such as around the pools) smoking is permitted only on the port side. There are a few places, clearly marked, in the enclosed public areas that permit smoking too.

Your husband will find places on the Emerald where smoke is a problem. The casino is the biggest offender (although it's allowed), walking down hallways you experience smoky areas from time to time as well as the Club Fusion & in the Explorers lounge have smoking sections & don't have proper ventilation systems.

Hopefully you won't have a cigarette chain smoker or cigar smoker upwind of you balcony or you'll be limited as to it's use.

Good luck.
