How far is the New Orleans airport to the pier?

How far is the airport in New Orleans to the Pier? We are flying in on APril 16th and will be staying for a few days before our cruise and Will need to rent a car at the airport then return it before we get our ship. Just trying to figure out a workable schedule.

It will depend a lot on the time of day. If you can avoid rush hour, it shouldn't be more than thirty minutes or so from the airport to downtown.

 

Downtown to the airport will take longer (about forty-five minutes) because of construction on I-10. Construction is supposed to be finished before 4/16, but don't count on it.

A few years ago, I rented at the airport and was able to return the car downtown for no extra charge (we even got a van ride to our French Quarter hotel) . . . that might be a possibility that would save you some driving.

Would recommend not renting a car. Take a taxi to your hotel of choice in The French Quarter. From there you can either walk or take a trolley to anywhere. When we go to New Orleans we park our car on arrival and do not get back in it until we leave town.
