swansnz Posted January 7, 2013 #1781 Share Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) Ship: Solstice Cabin #: 6242 Deck #: 6 Class: 2C Area: Starboard, rear of the Hump Bed near: Bath Quiet?: No, engine humming noise problem, see comments Balcony view: Balcony size: A bit larger than normal, with the extra angle of hump - last cabin on the back end of the hump. Wind a problem?: No Soot a problem?: Only one day, did we wake to find quite a bit of soot on the balcony Problems/comments: see below. We have just returned from the Solstice and we had cabin 6242 while my in-laws had 6240 (both on the back end of the hump). There is a noise problem with these cabins - a sort of engine humming sound, which is constant, 24hrs a day, regardless of the sea conditions or even if the ship was at sea or in port. It was so bad, that we had to be moved, as we had 2 pretty sleepless nights, including Christmas Eve The Housekeeping maintenance manager (I think it was), came with an engineer, who confirmed it was a known issue, and there was nothing they could do to resolve the problem. It's to do with the piping taking the exhaust from the engines to the funnels on the top, which are inside the walls across the hallway - not sure if the noise is the engine, or fans within the pipes, but I know it was heard from within 6240 and 6242. From walking the hallways, it would possibly affect 6244 and 6246 too, maybe even as far as 6248, 6250 (and similar on the port side 6241, 6243,6245,6247,6249,6251). From walking in the hallways, the nose/vibration, then was ok, then reoccurred further down the ship (the rear most funnel piping), but I did not record the cabin numbers located here, but again it would possibly have affected 4-6 rooms on both sides of the ship. I'm surprised that more has not been mentioned on this topic here, but maybe I just did not search right, while researching the cabins. Also, it will affect people who have more sensitive hearing, as while we could clearly hear it from within my in-laws cabin (6240), they were ok with it - I guess there are some advantages to having some hearing loss in later life The initial report was handled well by the Celebrity housekeeping maintenance and guest relations, however, the Housekeeping maintenance manager told us he would sort it with guest relations to have us moved if possible. After a few hours of not hearing back, we visited guest relations, and were not so well treated. The guest relations staff member just appeared to want us to go away, and kept telling us that it was being looked into and as the ship was full, there were no available cabins anyway. When we kept on and insisted we see the guest relations supervisor, she eventually went to the office around the back and when she came back, we did in fact get another cabin (8301) - funny how this had only just then became available, as we were at sea that day. This did spoil our Christmas day, but at least it ended well, and 8301 was a great cabin, but with a smaller balcony – and although it had vibration within the cabin, I think this is felt thought the ship. dln929 Posted January 7, 2013 #1782 Share Posted January 7, 2013 Ship: Equinox Cabin #: 1554 Deck #: 11 Class: Aqua Area: forward Bed near: bath Quiet?: yes Balcony view: obstructed by window washing equipment Balcony size: nicely oversized Wind a problem?: no Soot a problem?: no Problems/comments:The window washing equipment is really in your face so if you take lots of photos from the balcony, you may want to choose another cabin. It's going to be in every shot otherwise! We weren't bothered by it because the compromise was a nice big balcony, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It's not as big as #1552 on the north side, however. We occasionally heard chairs being moved upstairs but the noise never lasted more than a few seconds at best, nothing to worry about. As you walk into the room, the bed and the bathroom are on the right wall.
PENNST66 Posted January 7, 2013 #1783 Share Posted January 7, 2013 Ship: Equinox Cabin #: 1089 Deck #: 10 Class: C2 Area: Mid-Ships Bed near: Balcony Quiet?: Some Noise Heard Balcony view: Good View Balcony size: Normal Wind a problem?: no Soot a problem?: no Problems/comments: We occasionally heard noise never lasted any more than a few seconds at a time, nothing to worry about. There is a ships company access door across the hall from Cabin 1085 which I think is where the noise came from. As you enter the room, the bed and the bathroom are on the left hand side wall. Good Location easy to get both sets of elevators (Forward and Aft).

SeaBlu Posted January 11, 2013 #1785 Share Posted January 11, 2013 Deck - Penthouse Cabin # -1526 Class – AQ Starboard or Port Side -Starboard Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Center (accessible room) Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Quiet Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. –Great views, saw flying fish, some lovely sunsets. No obstructions, could see the Captain's Docking Bridge on our side of the ship - fun. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Oversized as it was a larger 'accessible stateroom'. We really enjoyed it. Excellent! Was wind a problem? NO If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? Not enough storage, needs shelves. Especially for 2 week cruise. I am amazed women designed this room. They could have a storage drawer under the 'sofa' or more wall cabinets, high. BUT I probably bring too much anyway :o Any other comments? The lack of storage is an "S" class problem. This was an excellent cabin for the handicapped. Lots of room. We had a mobility cart and there was room for it without it always being in the way. The bathroom was excellent and worked for my DH perfectly! Very quiet room, we loved it! Rare angelsil Posted January 14, 2013 #1786 Share Posted January 14, 2013 Ship: Reflection Cabin #: 9299 Deck #: 9 Class: C2 Area: Aft Port (last cabin before the Sunsets) Bed near: Balcony Quiet?: Mostly, some noise during docking from the engines Balcony view: Excellent - no obstructions Balcony size: Larger - has bump out to the left Wind a problem?: no Soot a problem?: no Problems/comments: This is a long haul from the elevator, which wasn't a problem for us but might be for some. The balcony only has 1 neighbor, on the right, so it's more private. There is also a deep overhang on the balcony so the sun doesn't penetrate fully into the balcony every day. This might be good or bad depending. We loved this cabin and have booked it again for next year.

aycee Posted January 19, 2013 #1795 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Ship - Solstice Cabin # - 1664 Deck # - 11 Class - A2 Area - starboard aft Bed near - balcony Quiet - in calm seas -yes - in rough seas -no Balcony view - unobstructed Balcony size - appeared slightly bigger than normal Wind a problem - no Soot a problem - no Comments - In calm seas cabin was very quiet. In rough seas very creaky and shuddering. Wall and ceiling panels seemed to cause this noise. This was our second cruise but the first time we have encountered rough seas - wondered if this was normal or not ??? Position of cabin not a problem for us - gave us a chance to exercise. Room stewards cart was frequently parked outside but this caused us no problem whatsoever.

Definitely heard chairs moving early morning and people jogging occasionally. Dancing and music from pool party was loud but expected. Well worth it for convenient location. Balcony view - view forward only; large overhang. On hump so no view to the aft. Balcony size - oversized, deep, hump balcony. Shaded due to large overhang for pool deck above. Wind a problem - no Soot a problem - N/A Comments - This was our first hump cabin and we loved it! Great location - so convenient to stairs and elevator. Service from steward Desmond and assistant Reynaldo was exemplary. Room was always cleaned and well maintained; never had to ask for anything. We found the storage to be ample for our needs. We have the same location booked on Silhouette for next year.
