Cruising and pregnancy: Is it safe?

A friend of mine and her boyfriend were supposed to join us in January aboard the Carnival Victory. They have just found that she will be 5 months pregnant by then and they are wondering whether it would be safe. The best information will obviously come from her doctor but I was wondering whether anyone has had any experience with cruises while pregnant.

Are there any extra precautions that would need to be taken?

Please be advised that guests who are 27 weeks or more into their pregnancy at the time of the voyage will not be permitted to sail because of the risk of premature labor.

I think 5 months pregnant is about the best time in a pregnancy...period! It is a great time to travel...over the morning sickness thing, and still not soooo big that you are uncomfortable. Unless there is some sort of complication, there should not be any risks...just drink lots of water, take time to rest, get up and walk around the plane...And most importantly, have fun!!!!!!!!!!

There was a very heated thread on this a short time ago. If you are not 27 weeks or over and have your doctors and/or mid wifes blessings have fun. I went with my daughter when she was 26 1/2 weeks. She had a great time, over morning sickness and not the big as a barn thing:)

Now, you can wait to hear from those who will tell you that you are a horrible person. It really is something between you and the health care people. This may not be the best plasce to ask:)
