OhioTeacherDude Posted January 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I see alot of the Platinum, Diamond, Gold, etc. coupon books available on Ebay. How strictly does RCI monitor the use of the coupons. Some say only one coupon can be used on the cruise another says they are void if sold. Has anyone used the coupon books purchased off Ebay? If you had say TWO bar credit coupons, could you use both on one cruise? I know I am going to PO some Crown and Anchor members by my shameless activities, so I apologize in advance. :)

The coupon is checked against your status and could be quickly denied.
green eyed lady Posted January 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2009 No one has ever checked my coupons against my sea pass card  I have old books that I bring on every cruise and have had no problem using them along with the current ones I get on each sailing. bigal3967 Posted January 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I purchased several books on ebay and used them all this past week on our 5 day cruise. We are gold members and used platimun and diamond coupons. I never had anyone check my seapass card. When using the casino coupons, they do not even see your sea pass card. E bay is a great place to purchase the coupons and use them I think from my personal experience. Al
OhioTeacherDude Posted January 25, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted January 25, 2009 Thanks Al, We you able to use multiple coupons on the same cruise also? For example, Free Bar Drink...if you have two of the same coupons, were you able to use both coupons at different times on the same cruise? We must have had about 15 $5 match play coupons and several buy on get one free drink coupons and we used all of them without any questions. Just one of the drink coupons saves you $6 and every casino coupon is like placing a $5 bet without using your money so why not buy them on ebay and use them? Also if you are going to be buying multiple bottles of wine, you save a maximum of $10 off every two bottles you buy if you use the 20% coupon on the secon bottle. We used gold coupons as platinum many times. They also do not track how many of them you use per cruise either.

That is not my experience I have never had anyone check my Seapass when using any coupon. Now, I would think it would be tough to get the value out of the coupon books if I had to buy them. love2vacation Posted January 26, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 26, 2009 A friend gave me hers for free photos and they where denied because they where a different C&A level than our sea pass stated. I would not bother to bid on them you never know if they will be accepted. bigal3967 Posted January 27, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2009 That is not my experience I have never had anyone check my Seapass when using any coupon. Now, I would think it would be tough to get the value out of the coupon books if I had to buy them. I purchased several books on ebay ranging from $5 to $15 for more than 1 book with extra coupons. In every instance I was able to save much more than I paid for the books and still have many coupons left over. The 20% off spa coupon could save you the minimum of $20 if you just have a simple $100 message. The same is true of the 20% second bottle of wine. That's a savings of $8 to 10$ if you get a $40 to $50 bottle of wine. Not to count the $5 match play coupons for the casino. They are basically worth $5!! Maybe I am the exception but it was well worth my time to purchase several books off of ebay and use the coupons I needed to use. big Al
Cavatelli430 Posted January 27, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 27, 2009 We are Gold members, on the cruise we just recently returned from, it doesn't appear everyone checks them the same. To get our internet credit, I went to guest relations and asked if they could credit it just onto my card, of if it had to be 1 coupon per sea pass. She said either way, so she put both coupon credits on my seapass. I did have to fill out the coupons with info. When I used BOGO drinks, both were charged to my card and I had to fill out the coupons each time. BUT when I went to the casino, just gave them the coupon, they didn't want me to fill it out, she didn't even ask to see my seapass. So, I guess it all depends on who you get. I was disappointed they did away with the picture coupons as I always purchase some as keepsakes from our cruise. There were quite a few coupons we didn't get a chance to use, so I'll keep them just in case...;)
phoenix1181 Posted January 27, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2009 In the old days, the benefits were fewer but no one could cheat the system which seems to be SOP nowadays............... It's time for RCCL to get rid of the coupon books and go back to discounts based on your C & A level as identified on your SeaPass.
Ollie_WA Posted January 27, 2009 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2009 WOW, I would have never thought to "sell" them. I either leave them in my safe for the next passenger, try to save them in a safe place at home where I will actually remember where they are or just toss them! Who would have known!!! cb at sea Posted January 27, 2009 #16 Share Posted January 27, 2009 If you BUY them, it totally defeats the purpose of the coupons--may as well just buy that "free" drink! But if you find some in a drawer, you can use them. They do NOT check to see if they're yours.

Otherwise you save money and always have more coupons to use or sell on ebay when you return home. Big Al
Happy ks Posted January 28, 2009 #19 Share Posted January 28, 2009 Looking at the discounts offered, I suppose if I used the coupons it could be worth it, if I was also a first time cruiser. But I've not used many of the coupons in the books we've been given free. And that is the whole point....why are people buying what they could get for free? Are they the first timers who don't know any better? The discounts offered are for a small percentage off of what many won't bother buying, such as 10 or 20% off drastically overpriced spa services, internet discounts that will only get you signed on and then a very expensive time using their internet, the list goes on and on. The only coupons we use would not be worth much more than the price of what people are paying for them on Ebay plus the postage. It would be a wash for us and not worth the effort. I also don't trust people who sell things like this, I suspect theft on their part and I don't want to support theft.
zetachi Posted January 28, 2009 #20 Share Posted January 28, 2009 also it appears that many of the coupons on EBAY say seven day cruise. If you are on a six day or less then would be usable?

They do NOT check to see if they're yours. You cannot really make this blanket statement that they don't check... because they do... sometimes... The correct answer here folks, is that it depends... Some cruises, some crew, for some coupons - do indeed check and you can be denied the use of the coupon... they aren't going to kick you off the ship, you'll just be a bit embarrassed when they say, 'no'... there is no rhyme or reason to it... On our last cruise we tried to share our coupons with family members who were not C&A members and they were denied the use of the coupon flat out... So buying the coupon books on eBay is a gamble... You may pay for the darned thing and then not be able to use the coupons at all OR you may pay for the darned thing and be able to use the coupons and save some money... it just depends... cruisePRN Posted January 28, 2009 #23 Share Posted January 28, 2009 I would not sell my coupons but I would trade some I don't use for ones I do use. I cruise a few times a year and have left over ( Diamond) casino coupons, bingo coupons, wine coupons, 20% off spa and a few misc. I have used the leftover coupons without a problem on several cruises. The one I always used was for a free photo and I hear they have eliminated that coupon.
