MalibuCA Posted January 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2009 My husband and I are flying to Hong Kong where we will be staying at the Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon. We will need transportation from the airport to the hotel. We will only have carry-on luggage with us because I am shipping our luggage ahead with Luggage Forward. The Peninsula can pick us up at the hotel, but for a "price." Does anyone know what it will cost to take a taxi from the Hong Kong Airport to the Peninsula Hotel? Rasa Sayang Posted January 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2009 The Peninsula can pick us up at the hotel, but for a "price." I find myself wondering why anyone would want to take one of Hong Kongs rattly taxis when they are offered pickup by one of the world's best hotel limo services. :):D I would have thought that anybody who could afford to stop at "The Pen" would not even blink at the cost of a limo transfer. Just an observation ;)
ab0si Posted January 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2009 With just hand luggage you might want to consider the Airport Express train. Take it to Kowloon and then hop on the (free for Airport Express passengers) shuttle K2. The Pen is not an official stop, but the driver will be happy to let you off if asked. Or, take a taxi from the Kowloon station to the Pen. The Pen's transfer is certainly excellent -- actually it is even better going from the hotel TO the airport. Sorry, I do not know the cost of a taxi. When traveling by myself, it's the train; when traveling with my wife, it's the Rolls. :)
Ms Understood Posted January 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Shelly, 3 years ago we went in reverse, from the Pen to the airport. It is quite a distance (maybe 45 minutes?) and for $100 USD the Pen provided us with a Rolls Royce. At the airport, uniformed bellmen from the hotel met us at the curb and escorted us in to the ticket counter, made sure we were all set before they left. For $100!!! Unbelievable service, go for it. ------------- Helen
boeckli Posted February 4, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2009 In October, we stayed at the Salisbury YMCA Hotel (next-door to the Peninsula) We used the 'Cityflyer' bus from the airport (route A21 - get off at stop 14, Middle Road/Nathan Road, which is just round the corner from the hotel) Cost is HK$ 33 per adult one way (not sure how much return, we only used one way) http://www.nwstbus.com.hk/routes/rou...pe=D&company=5 gives you the route details (scroll down for 'from airport' section) The buses have racks for the luggage. From memory it took close to an hour to get there but it's a very interesting ride. Advantage over the Airport Express train is that you do not have to change from train to bus. MalibuCA Posted March 2, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks, Peter. What a great job you must have to be traveling so frequently to Hong Kong! I think the taxi will be the easiest and most cost efficient way to go since we have no luggage except carry-ons. Maybe we'll run across you in HK!
