39august Posted February 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2009 What are the options for a good beach in SJ, please? We have done the walking tour of OSJ, and seen both forts, so looking for a different experience. The ship is only in port from 8 AM - 2 PM. Any input on rum tasting at Don Q? RayInPR Posted February 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Refer to this thread that I just answered on CC for some beach info. You're looking for input for rum-tasting at the Don Q Visitor Center? By all means do it! It's free. Just keep tipping the bartender. We stop in every time we go into Old San Juan (couple times a month). The guys that work there know us by now! Also, consider going into the office of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, which happens to be right next door to Don Q, and sample all of the Puerto Rican (not just Don Q) rums there! If you want to taste a bunch of Puerto Rican rums, have dinner, and learn about rum-tasting, go on the rum-tasting and dinner tour. We've gone on that a couple times, too. All of the above reviews are personal experiences we've written about in our vacation guide. Hope this helps!
sailandcruise Posted February 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2009 We were there at the Don Q Visitor Center in Old San Juan on Monday January 19, 2009 after our Celebrity Galaxy cruise. They offered all their rums for tasting, mixed however you like, and of course also for purchase, except for the Don Q 151. We bought two bottles, one of Cristal and one of Anejo. :) The next day at the airport we went into the duty-free shop. Not only were the bottles there less expensive, they were a full liter rather than just 750 ml. :( And, since the store is inside the secure area, we could carry our purchases on the plane and not have to worry that they might break in the checked luggage. If only I had known ... but we did buy another bottle of the Gold. (They didn't have the 151 either.)
RayInPR Posted February 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2009 (They didn't have the 151 either.) You wouldn't be able to take 151 on the plane anyway ... it's flammable.
