hello everyone,

we booked a category 8A balcony guarantee on the carnival victory for april 5 2009. so in reading other threads i see that you can end up with a bad location when booking a guarantee. is it possible at this point to pick out a room and pay that price, also how would we pick the locations... anyone know good or bad locations for this ship? thank you!:)

Hi, and welcome to Cruise Critic! You might want to post this on the Carnival board - lots of information about the layout of this class of ship (as well as the Conquest-class, which is a bigger version of Victory and Triumph). We've sailed Victory four times, all balconies, two times with guarantee cabins. Three of our cabins were on deck 8, and I have no complaints about any of them. For the least noise, you want a cabin that has cabins above and below you - all of deck 7, deck 8 forward, and deck 9 forward. The main concern I would have is deck 6, which is above the Promenade deck with the lounges and casino. On our last Victory cruise, one of our roll call members had a cabin on deck 6 above the casino bar, and the band kept them awake until 2 a.m. I've had cabins on deck 6 on other ships (had a good deal on an inside cabin across the hall for our kids) and did notice more noise from below - but I had no problem getting a good night's sleep. Hope this helps!

The 8A rooms on the Upper deck that are near the bow are over the showroom, during the afternoon you may hear them rehearse and at night you may hear the performances. We were in 6232 and were able to hear them rehearse.

The good thing about guaranty cabins is the worst you'll get is an 8A, you could get anything up to a cat 9 cabin. An 8G aft extended balcony would be great.

if its your first cruise you have nothing to compare it to. If you just booked for april 2009 your chances of being upgraded are higher then someone who booked a year ago.

IF you want to pick your cabin--you will be paying the going rate to do so.

Booking a guarantee saved you some money.

Make sure your booking is registered on the carnival site so you can watch when you get assigned your cabin

it's only my 4th cruise, but ive heard you can end up with a dang lifeboat dangling over your balcony. you are right we did save money with the guarantee, but we booked last july, i am curious why is it that if we booked now we would have a better chance for an upgrade than if we booked last year? thanks!:)

Because the people who pay the most get upgraded first.

Dont hold me to that though-- a few years ago I did a poll here. Wondering why I never got upgraded-- not even one deck. Well after doing the poll it kinda made sense. I pay very cheap for alll the cruises-- so now I book set rooms now.

The only class ship that has the lifeboats in the way is a spirt calls. Victory has their lifeboats recessed under a deck. There are no obstructed balconies on this class of ship.

Actually, there should be no charge to pick a 8A cabin. My TA would have let me pick a 8A cabin and give up my 8A guarantee. But, OP Id still roll the dice and see what Carnival gave me.
