When stopping in St Thomas after visiting a non US territory (you are not), you have to go to Immigration on the ship. Yes the lines can get very long, but the wait is rarely if ever an hour. The lines move very quickly. If you go very early, there will be very little waiting. This doesn't apply to the other ports. This

Yes, I agree....we sailed on AOS in March and we went to the dining room for the immigration check at 8:15 am and we were finished by 8:20 a.m.

dDean52 :

I just read your post again and I realized that you are on the sailing where St. Thomas is the first stop...you do not need to do the immigration check on your cruise. I sailed that route in Oct 03 and we did not have to do the immigration check on any of the islands.

As Cruisinfanatic said...the immigration check is only when you enter US territory after traveling to other countries. And since St. Thomas is your first stop, you will not have to do the immigration check.

On the other itinerary the AOS takes, (Aruba, Curacao, St. Marten), St. Thomas is the last stop on the itinerary and that is why passengers need to do the immigration check.

Have a great cruise! I love the Adventure of the Seas and the itinerary as well. Especially the route that you are takig.

When we were on AOS we had to all go through immigration early in the morning. It was a royal pain, because the lines were pretty long. The following morning we docked at San Juan and again everyone had to go through long lines of immigration. I filed a complaint with 2 US Senators about immigration wasting resources (i.e. why clear a ship that had sailed between two US Ports). Go figure! Anyone can walk across the Mexican or Canadian border, but we need to check and double check cruise ship passengers on ships that have tighter security than airports. Makes a lot of sense. I figure the immigration folks just want their free breakfast.

Was wondering what time is early enought to get into the immigration line in St Thomas? What time did you dock? What time did you get off the ship? Trying to plan some excursions. Thanks

I believe St. Thomas was Immigration, but San Juan was Customs. Both annoying, but different, procedures.
