This will be my first time on a carnival ship and I am wondering what the glory is like? Is it an old ship? Do I need to bring my own towels? How's the gym?

The glory is a fantastic ship! I have been on it twice, and going again in March.

When are you going?

It is a big ship, I think it was built in 2003, not sure, but it is nice.

The layout is a little strange, because there is a dining room at both ends of the ship, so you cant just get on the elevator in some parts of the ship and go all the way down, because of the kitchens etc......

I cant tell you much about the gym, other than it is big, has lots of equipment and it is pretty modern......

From what I understand the Glory is very similar to the Liberty in layout, which is the only cruise ship i've been on, and honestly I LOVED it! Excellent layout, and wonderfully designed. Just be sure which dining room you are in for your first night. While I was waiting to get into the dining room, i must have given directions to at least thirty people who were at the wrong one!

The linens are the best of any cruise line that I have been on, really not kidding, comparable to nicer hotels. You will even get thick heavy terrycloth robes in the cabins to use throughout the cruise. Their linens are so good that you can go online and buy a set for your bed at home.

The glory is far from an old ship, she is quite modern.

Although I think some other lines do certain things better than Carnival, bedding ain't one of them!! The Carnival comfort bedding is easily the best I have experienced on a cruise ship. Very, very comfortable and of a high quality. The bathrobes are excellent as well.

The Glory is a great ship. Just sailed on her two months ago and she is in fine shape.

i have never felt crowded on that ship, except the day we were getting off when everyone was on the lido deck.

Both times i was on, they were full to capacity, but we never waited in line at the buffett more than maybe 5 minutes........and we always had tables out by the pool. My husband was a smoker, and we spent a lot of time out there.

He has quit smoking now.....yahooooooooooo........so we might not be out there as much on this next cruise. we are on the glory March 28th. when are u going/

My family loved the Glory so much, we're booked to go again. Mind you, we have not sailed on any other ship, so I really can't compare. Our first sailing was pretty much filled to capacity, and we didn't really feel crowded. About the pools specifically, I don't want to say too much, because we didn't spend a ton of time there. Only thing I really saw a line for was the Purser's Desk on the last night, when everyone wanted to revise their S & S account details.

Cleaniness and friendliness of the crew was wonderful. Conditions of all of the facilities were also very good. Not to say that no one ever has a legitimate complaint, but do consider the motivations of posters - both good and bad - before you form an opinion.

You'll love the Glory. We enjoyed it more than some of the others were were on last year. I heard they are up for a service award now (per John Healds Blog).

The ship was built in 2003 and still a great ship to go on! I wouldn't consider it an older ship by any means. We thought the food was hand-down better than many we've been on lately as well.

The Glory is DW's favorite ship. She is a relatively new ship with a great crew. It was our first Carnival cruise and we haven't been on another line since. Leave your towels at home. We hit the gym at 6 am every morning and had great workouts. We even signed up for a yoga class. The only problem we encountered was trying to figure out how to get to the rear dinning room. By day three we had it down pat.:)

I was just on the Glory last month. We did the eastern itnerary. I thought it was a great ship and didn't look or feel aged at all. I believe it holds around 3,400 passengers so there will be alot of people. I did think it felt crowded especially on the sea days. If you want a chair by the pool you need to get out there early. We found a great spot on deck 10 that was not crowded and shielded by the wind. This was our first time back on Carnival in about 10 yrs. We loved the Glory and would sail on it again.

I was curious about the comparison between Glory and the smaller ships. For me Glory was clean, food was good, but it was also crowded at times and it can hold one heck of a lot of people. Maybe it was my luck, but every time I would decide to do something, the whole world seemed to show up. That being said, there are spots where you can get away from the crowds, but the pool, buffet and waiting for a tender is not that kind of place. My favorite spot was on Deck 8, found a way to get onto the area that is forward of that deck, very few folks found this, but also there were no deck chairs.

If you don't mind crowds there is nothing not to like about Glory.

I've been on Glory twice. She's a beautiful ship and she is newer so she has alot of the bells and whistles.

The gym rocked, great equipment and great set up, I worked out there several times on my first cruise, but I was lazy my last one :o

Foods great, service awesome.

Absolutely nothing to worry about.

One word of advice, when you get on the ship go to the pursers desk and get a map of the layout of the ship, she is slightly hard to navigate the first time.

Have fun!!!

One bad comment I have on Glory was the degree of smoke in the casino. As an ex smoker I have a hard time with the amount of smoke that I experienced last May onboard. Hopefully this has changed since my last trip. I had completely put it out of mind since last year due in part to not being able to use the area. Spent all of $15.00 there before the smoke chased me away. Wife would not even walk through it.

No, their are designated smoking areas! I believe the casino, On the Green (Sports Bar), the casino bar, and the starboard side of decks 3, 9, and 10 are the only places to smoke. There are times that you can walk through the casino that aren't bad, but night time would be one of those smokey times! I was just on the Glory, 1-24 to 1-31, any questions just ask, I can most likely help you with the freshest memory.

I thought the food was fair, some days it was great and some were so so, that is the buffet. It does not go on all day, in the Red Sail Restaurant, I was in there for lunch, and saw some people eat dinner in there, it shut down for a little bit after dinner and reopened at 11:30 at night with a night buffet, but that was only some nights. I was on the western, which I was told has rougher seas than the eastern. There were only 2 nights that I thought were rough, and those were the nights we were leaving Mexico ports. My wife had gotten sick from the rocking one night, but I did not. I'm sure the seas get rougher in hurricane season. I did not see too many kids on our trip, but you probably will, since you are cruising during Christmas break, and the kids are off school.

I would say the food is not bad. Out on the lido deck they have your typical burgers, etc. You can go into the redsail and utilize the buffet. The fish and chips is very good. It's on deck 10 above the redsail. My wife also loved the sandwhich station. Fresh sandwhiches and wraps. Then there is the 24 hour pizza station at the back of the ship on deck 9. Just walk through the redsail.

We did the Eastern portion and were on the Glory 1/17/09 - 1/24/09. We really enjoyed these ports. Our favorite was probably St. Maarten. We have been to Nassau quite a few times, but I still enjoy it. St. Thomas was also very nice.

I have two kids ages 4 and 7 and they were on the cruise with us. There were not kids everywhere. They were typically around the camp carnival area. During hours camp Carnival was closed they would hang out by the main pool on the lido deck. That was fine for us so we could keep an eye on our kids.
