Bermuda and Scooters

I would NEVER drive a scooter on my own, but I have always rode on the back with my husband driving when in Bermuda. I can't imagine not having the freedom to go where you want when you want, seeing the sights glide past with the sun shining on you and the wind blowing against you, smelling the scent of the native flowers, stopping at little places along the way that catch your interest. That's what going to Bermuda means to me.

But that is exactly what I am doing this month: riding the busses with my mom. It sure will be a different visit.

BTW, my DH is not a motorcycle owner, but he does know how to drive one and I have always felt confident with him driving. I agree the Middle road is the most harrowing. There's not much in the way of "scenic" sights to see there anyway, it's just a way to get from point A to point B.

Can't wait to hear what you think of Bermuda and the Majesty when you get back. I hope you're not disappointed as some of us Bermudaholics can get carried away with our enthusiasm.;) I have run into a couple of people who weren't impressed and saw no reason to go back. Either you "get" Bermuda or you don't.....most do.:)

I can't imagine that I will be disappointed. I just love the "tropical" islands. I could stare at that blue water all day long. Just being on vacation, in a beautiful location, with family along is enough for me.

It's funny but until I found these message boards, I never gave Bermuda much thought. I knew people who have gone there and enjoyed it, but when I thought about cruising to a tropical location, I just thought of Bermuda being a place off the Carolina coast..never even considered going there. But when I saw all the people here who love it, plus the Majesty leaving from my home port, it was a win win situation.

Same goes for the Majesty. I know she's old. And I do think that we're going to find that she's a little worse for the wear since she has been sold. I can't imagine that NCL is spending tons of money on the upkeep of her since she's leaving soon and they are probably doing just the minimum necessary. But I have seen her (from the outside) and she's a beautiful ship, not a garbage scow! :) Our whole group is relatively easy to please and I think we will enjoy her...warts and all! :D

I'm getting excited....not long now!

I fell in love with Bermuda the minute I stepped off the plane way back when and always wanted to go back. DH decided to do something for a milestone anniversay so a cruising friend talked him into a cruise. He got the Bermuda bug as well.:)

Yes, the Majesty has warts but they seem to be doing a good job of taking care of the warts. Some one was always painting or cleaning. When the casino was closed, they steam cleaned all the carpeting. They were replacing some of the big windows on deck 5 while in Phila. and big rolls of carpeting were brought on. I even saw them reparing the joints between the decking.

i apologize for necrolizing such an old thread but i had a couple questions. i read through this thread and it's great with info. i am coming in to king's wharf. is there a starting area and road we can take to avoid most local traffic and issues? we just want to cruise on open spaces. secondly, can anyone recommend a good scooter place near king's wharf? i heard about a place called orleanders but i can't even reach their website, it's down. we are staying a full day and a half.

thanks!

I don't think there is a way to leave the starting area that is clear of most local traffic. Your staring area is the Dockyard and there is one main road that connects it with other parts of the island. The road is a bus, truck, and auto route for about 8 miles where it splits and offers an alternate route which is also a bus route.

The link for Oleanders Cycle is working: http://www.oleandercycles.bm/

this is great thanks. i didn't realize heritage wharf and king's wharf were the same thing.

Heritage Wharf and King's Wharf have 2 things in common. They are both located at the Dockyard (aka /West End) and they are both wharves where cruise ships tie up to when visiting Bermuda, one at King's Wharf and the other a Heritage Wharf.
