39august Posted February 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2009 Any input about taking a taxi on your own to El Cid? And which El Cid is it? There appears to be 2 or 3 El Cid's in Mazatlan. One is the Tower. I've forgotten the others. Are you allowed to use the beach loungers as long as you buy drinks and/or food? Are there trees for shade, or are there umbrellas/palapas and what is the cost to rent, please? Any other hotel beaches recommended?

It's a $10 taxi from the ship. No charge for day use, buy drinks and food for cash. Umbrellas at the pool and on the beach. When a waiter comes, tell him you are buying drinks and snacks, and if you tip him a couple bucks he will get you towels to use, he may want some ID to leave with the pool desk which you get back when you return the towels. Also a gorgeous restaurant next door to the right when facing the ocean, lovely patio, nice inside too. Time share ppl at the dock will offer you free taxi, drinks, and food at the El Cid if you go to their 1 hour time share presentation. We didn't have an hour to waste, but others who did it said they stuck to the hour, and came thru on the freebees. Pretty resort, and right in the middle of the Golden Zone. -Bob

Bob7 Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Hi 39, we were there about 4 years ago. I think I saw some posts recently that other cruisers have been there and it's still in nice shape. Waterfall at the pool for the kids to mess around under (or you and DH :-) Some umbrellas at the pool loungers, and thatched papillas on the beach, might have been a rope to keep out the vendors. -Bob
bobnsofi Posted February 17, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2009 the main El Cid is at a great location adjacent to Deer Island. They are all set up for day use. The hotel itself is not really that nice, but for Mazatlan Day Use... Go for it. We were last there in 11/08 and there is a new RUI going in farther north; but it is unlikely done. The other El Cid is located on the marina a few miles north, and is not set up for day use. Here's a shot of the new RUI in 11/08. The El Cid is the distant high rise in the very right hand of the picture below here's the El Cid in the Marina area
