Zip-lining in Labadee suggestions

Recommended Posts

We are getting ready to sail the Freedom 3/29/09 :D and want to do the zip-lining in Labadee. Does anyone suggest a time to go over another? There are so many times to choose from on the registration. Also, we are staying in a JS do we get priority off the ship? Thanks everyone!:)

We signed up for it "first thing"....don't remember if it was 8 or 9. LOVED IT.

Not sure about priority tendering for suites, but if you have an excursion you DO get on the first or second tender.....we gathered in a lounge and they escorted us all down together. I think if you're later you're on your own to tender and get down to Dragons Breath area.

Folks with early ship excursions (and at Labadee, all excursions are the ship's!!) will get off the ship 1st. Doesn't matter what kind of room you have. The tenders are large, and you won't have to wait more than a few minutes at most to board the next tender.

Check out this thread I posted a few weeks after the Zip Line opened. It is somewhat outdated but still has a lot of good info.

When you go ashore from the tender turn left and you will have a bit of a walk (or take the tractor shuttle if it comes by) toward the Dragon's Breath area where the Zip Line starts. It is well marked and easy to find.

We booked the second zip line excursion.

We were grouped with the first zip line excursion and met at one of the bars on board.

We were the first group to be tendered off.

Upon arrival at Labadee, they told the first time confirmed zipliners to follow the guide to the orientation building, and the second group to do what you want and meet at 8:30 at the building.

Not paying attention we followed the first zippers.

When we checked in they took our names, and let us in the building.

I guess the names were in alphabetical order, and they really didn't care that we showed up for the wrong time.

It was great doing the zip early and getting the fear out of my system, I would do it again in a heart beat. We had the rest of the day to enjoy Labadee.

We also watched the videos on You tube for Labadee Haiti Zip lining, that showed it really wasn't that bad.

Have a safe journey

DO NOT BOOK AFTER 12 NOON for the zip line.

1) youre already relaxed and set up somewhere for the day

2) the lunch line was standing enough and you just want to bake or snorkel some more

3) the lines are longer with more people deciding to finally go

4) afternoon winds are building up

5) if you do it 1st thing, the rest of your day is a unit... and is not cut up in waiting for your zip time.

Another question for you zipline graduates. I had knee replacement surgery last June. I am going on a cruise on the Liberty in May. Doctor says I can do "normal" things, just nothing crazy like surfboarding (so there goes the surfing on the ship darn it!), skiing, running etc. Non impact things. Question is mostly on the landing part of the zipline. Does someone stop you before your feet touch the ground? Or is it more of a hard landing, stopping with your feet, thus your knees. If they stop you, I would probably be safe doing this, but if I have to hit with my feet, probably not a good idea. I guess I need to know about the landing part. Thank you!

On the Labadee Zipline, you stop by coming in contact with a large spring at the end of the line. You are still up in the air at the time. Your knee won't come into any sort of hard contact. It's got quite a bounce to it though. If you have any back trouble, I would think twice about it, but your knees should be okay.
