getting off ship

If the ship's docked, you can just walk off. If it's tendered, most ships I've been on use a ticket system for getting off early. You get a ticket and wait for your group to get called. Then at some point, they just let people show up at the tenders as they get ready. No tickets needed at that point. There'll be plenty of info about this in your daily newsletter.

If the ship is docked, you can walk off anytime after the ship is cleared by local authorities.

If the ship is in a tende port, all cruise lines give priority to people on the ship's excursions. Any other available space on the tenders is given on a first come basis. Usually, they will give out numbers and call a range for the available space on a tender.

So do you get the tender tickets the day of? The night before? The day you embark? Where do you get them? Thanks from a first timer!

this varies by cruise lines. Some the night before. Some the same day and some not at all. They normally tell you in the daily news letter where and when.

Unless you have to be on the very first tender, then no tickets are needed....The tenders run about every 15-20 mins in both directions, so if you're just "ambling" off, don't worry! The tenders hold ALOT of people---if you don't get on the 1st one, you'll get on the next.

Another thing for the OP.....you can get off and back on the ship as many times as you like while at a port. Some people do a tour, take a lunch break on the ship and then head back to do shopping at a port. Consider the ship your home and come and go as you please. Your room key is your pass on and off the ship. Just make sure you are back an hour before the scheduled departure time!
