Smoking in the Star casino?

yep, casinos are probably the smokiest places on the ship. Some really complain but other than sitting next to someone that is a total jerk and does not care where their smoke goes, it is not that bad.

(there was one lady in particular that played VP that was really nasty on our last cruise - when she sat down, we got up)

Guess we won't visit the casino then...very sensitive to cigarette smoke.

I know that there is a smoking section on the pool deck that we tried to stay away from, but I can't remember if it's port or starboard.

OH GOD.. here we go again. Why is it someone can not ask a legit question without someone else coming along and being a jerk.

I totally agree, why is it we have to always debate these issues when someone just asked a question?? This very subject is being discussed right now on Princess, I just got off the thread..

There are about 3 or 4 subjects that will never stop: tipping, smoking, babies on board and food quality.

Hope I didn't start anything bad.

I just needed some info that would help me on my cruise.

This is only the 3rd cruise we've taken and I found CC while doing research. I feel way more prepared because of all the info in these threads!

I think the reason this is such a hot subject is, that alot of smokers don't even try to be considerate of others. lots will smoke any place they can whether it's allowed or not. Now I'm not saying all, but certainly a large number. I myself believe that you are entitled to do what ever you want with your body. ( you have the right to be as stupid as you want, ie.. motorcycle helmets, eating bad foods, smoking ect...) and I'm NOT in favor of all these smoking laws, I don't believe the govt should be involved in this part of our lives. But as a person that has never smoked I do wish smokers were more considerate of non-smokers. I just think they don't understand how it effect others. I like to use this analogy: you know how the fumes of a bus smell when they pass ( diesel smoke) and how it takes your breath away? well that pretty close to what cig smoke is to non-smokers. Now, when will the govt tell us that you can smoke on cruise ships? hopefully never! so to rant, but this is 1 suject that I'm outspoken about.

will april 12th ever get here??? :D

Not at all.. Thats what a couple of us were trying to say is that you asked a legit question, then some jerk gets on here saying all smokers should just jump overboard. It's that poster that we were commenting on, not your post.

As a smoker I completely agree. We never smoke unless it is outside away from entrance/exit areas or in a designated smoking area onboard. I do hate that the casino has too much smoke for non-smokers. I wish there was a solution like maybe having one section smoking and one non-smoking. But that isn't usually doesn't have much success. Hopefully one day we will all be non-smokers and it won't even be an issue. Until then we just have to all try to be considerate of each other.

Is most of the ship non smoking? Smokers should just jump overboard and save themselves the trouble of dying slowly.....

See I always thought , Why cant all the non smokers just hold their breath for a week ? :p

Sorry, but I chuckled at both of these comments. DH and I are both sensitive to cigarette smoke too that is why we did not visit the casino on Carnival other than just a quick walk through to get to the theatre (and we did hold our breath :D) but on Princess we did do the casino thing because they had a smoke free night which was great.

At this point, anyone going into the casino should realize smoking is allowed, so it would not be inconsiderate of her in the least.

People like me who are sensitive to smoke know that this is a place I should avoid and that is why researching the ships public areas is essential.

No need for anyone to complain.

Simple!

you seem to be very realistic as to what involvement the government should have in our lives, but I disagree about smokers being considerate, I think 90% of them are, you notice those who are not. It is like saying all teens are a pain, a very few give the rest a bad name...

I have so much on my mind these days that my memory gets foggy..LOL.. but if my memory is right, NCL tried have a couple of smoke free nights in the casino and it just did not work for them. It lost them a lot of revenue. I won't swear on my life it was NCL that tried that and stopped it, but that is what I remember.

Someone mentioned about is it inconsiderate if a non-smoker sits by a smoker. I will tell you how I handle this. If I am at a slot machine and no one is around me I will smoke. If I am at a slot machine and no one is around me and finally someone comes and sit by me, I will try to not smoke as much, and when I do I will hold my cig as high up (like i'm resting my hand on the top part of the slot machine) as I can and make sure my smoke blows away from whoever is near me. If I go to sit at a slot machine and it is next to non-smokers, then I simply will not smoke until they are gone. Not a perfect solution, but it is how I try to be considerate. I know it's not enough for some, but it is my part at least.
