Onboard credit question

Nothing can be clearer than the answer "Yes". But just wanted to add the comment that your on-board account is your bank account while aboard. If the host line deposits an amount in it you may use it to pay for anything you wish to.

You can also get a cash refund of any balance remaining at the end of the cruise, as we did just recently. We got a note asking us to come by reception for the cash as they were unable to post credits to our credit card!

This is only true if the passenger or a third party (such as a travel agent) created the excess in the onboard account.

If the overage is the result of an Oceania credit, you must use it or lose it.

OR...have the Casino charge your account for cash taken. (yes, there is a 3% surcharge) However you then have 97% of the surplus to take home that you would otherwise have lost altogether.

Actually, our credit was a refund of the fuel surcharge.

This is an amount you previously paid, and Oceania chose this method to refund it to you. In other words, it was your money, not an incentive offered by Oceania. StanandJim was referring to credits like the current $500 per stateroom credit offered by Oceania as part of their 5th anniversary sale; this must be used or lost.

We had a refund similar to yours when we pre-booked a shore excursion and paid for it before sailing, then canceled it once we were on board and learned more details. There was still a balance at the end of the cruise, so they refunded it in cash.

  • 2 weeks later...

We got a shipboard credit $500.00/EACH of us in the cabin (2 adults) ..yes i entered that correctly, AND pre-paid gratuities on our Feb. 2010 LA to Miami Panama cruise..we declined the air and got a credit for almost $1200.00 ..so my question is, since gratuities are already covered, can we use shipboard credit towards shore excursions? or do we have to spend it in the casino and shops?

would the casino be able to give you the cash for the $500.00 on board credit (less the 3%) that Oceania deposits to your "bank account" on board???? or just for any on-board credit that the TA also ads to your "bank account"...seems like a winning situation to me...

Is this true on all cruise lines or just on Oceania?

waiting until we are onboard might mean missing a shore excursion that is already fully booked. Guess I will have to wait and see what O has for the two different catagories for shore excursions and see what we want to do. I have never heard of the cash at the casino idea to use the onboard credits.

Depends on the shore excursion if it is an overnight trip or one invovling air to someplace then it may be wise to book ahead.

Most people do their own tours...if you have not joined the roll call for your cruise you may want to see if others have private tours booked & willing to share.
