Mojito question...

Recommended Posts

This is my drink of choice.:p Has anyone else had problems getting a mojito when they board the ship? On the last three cruises that we've taken, I haven't been able to get one on the Lido deck, they tell me that they won't have the mint leaves till the next day, or they send me from bar to bar on the ship.:( Our last cruise on the Fascination I finally gave up asking for one after hitting three or four bars and being told to try another bar. Is this normal or are they being lazy and not wanting to make them?

Nope... not being lazy... they probably just don't have the mint.

I've seen the same thing but, wonder of wonders, there's a bar on the Splendor, El Mojito, that builds a KILLER mojito... Just be sure to order the Classic or you might get some fruity thingy...

:)

This is what we have found also. However they did get some mint leaves for us one day and the wife had several great Mojitos. On one cruise we looked in the caper and they were having a special on Mojitos in one of the bar areas that was only for a limited time.

No, they aren't lazy.

If you check the bar menu, those are the drinks they are totally prepared to fix... They can do some others providing they have the ingredients at the bar. I'm sure if they received a lot of requests for mojitos, they'd have the mint readily available...but, they apparently don't.

Try something new onboard and get your mojitos ashore.... They run about 8.00-10.00 and more--each.

Any suggestions for another drink to try onboard? I can't drink anything real sweet, like the drink of the day, and I don't like sour. The mojito just seems to fit the bill. You can only drink so many bloody mary's and I'm not real big on beer, makes me sleepy.

Try the Cozumel... it's a DOD but not too sweet, quite fruity!!

I love 'em!

I've found the same thing. I doubt they are being lazy, they want to sell as many drinks as they can.

Hey bring some mint leaves with you for the first day. :)

I've seriously considered doing this. I hope no one thinks I'm bringing pot onboard!!! Isn't there some rule about bringing agriculture onboard or is is just off the ship when you come back home?

I was able to get mojitos last June when I was on the Imagiantion. It's my favorite summer drink.

However, the ones I had were not good at all. I had one, and it looked like seaweed stuffed into a tube. I got another one thinking maybe the second one would be better, but to no avail. They weren't mixed right. It was basically soda water and lime. Hardly any alcohol, very little sugar, and def no crushed mint.

I would def go with something else. Can never go wrong with a captain-n-coke.

What if we want some fruity thingy? :D California Pizza Kitchen makes the best most refreshing passionfruit mojito. If I can get one of those on my Splendor cruise, my life will be complete!

The best ones I've ever gotten were when we were on the Legend in 2007. The bartender at the Atrium Bar made the best ones. The rest are kind of like you described above. And I can't find a descent pre-mixed one to smuggle on with me. On the Legend I had to order doubles to get a descent sized glass but they were good.:D

I never asked for one that was flavored so I couldn't say if they serve them or not.

I hear ya about the mojito just seems to fit the bill. Last three cruises I have ordered numerous mojitos with no trouble....just lucky I guess.

I would go with gin and tonic with a splash of lime if the mojito is not available....not sweet, not sour, just refreshing!

I guess I am another lucky one, I have been able to get them almost everywhere, except the pool bar. I usually get a vodka mojito and it never cost more than $7.00.

What is in a Cozumel?

I wouldn't recommend bringing mint leaves, they are very pungent and could result in every one of your bags being searched and you could lose valuable vacation time trying to explain the leaves, I also think it is one of those agricultural no no's.
Ever hear of Tupperware? Only and Agricultural issue if you're taking them off the ship. I'm suggesting the OP only take them to the bar.

I think I hear Will and or Jon asking for lunch.

I am with you on the sweet thing. Some ideas:

  • Gin & tonic (vodka tonic, rum tonic if you don't like gin)
  • Rum & soda with fresh lime. Super refreshing, no added sugar. Good made with dark rum.
  • Fresh margarita (tequila/cointreau/fresh lime juice) but something tells me that ain't gonna happen on a ship because I don't think they have time to juice the limes.
  • (Your favorite) on the rocks
  • Tequila shots!
  • White wine spritzer, or just a glass of wine

Just got off Freedom. 1st trip to the casino bar and mojitos were on the menu, but bartender said couldn't make them, had no mint.

Next night went there and got a great bartender. Asked for one and he said sure. Got out a huge tub of fresh mint. Seems everyone who got the one bartender was told the same thing. They also served them at the atrium bar and the disco.

They had a new drink on the menu called the cruzer (cruiser??). My friend drank those and they were really good. Not too sweet. Might want to give them a try!!!

Last year on the Triumph every bar told us they did not have mint. We did have mint with a dessert but the bars did not recieve it for drinks. On the last full day of the cruise we told our "favorite" bar server on the lido deck how much we appricated his service but next time we see him we are going to want majitos. After telling him the story of no mint at all the bars he smiled and said "I know where some is...I'll be right back." After waiting a while he came back with four mojitos with plenty of mint in it. He went all the way to the kitchen, got some mint and made us mojitos. Talk about service! We, as always, showed him our appreciation.:D
