Mojito question...

Recommended Posts

Not sure if there has been a change in policy but I had trouble getting mojitos due to not having fresh mint; on previous cruises until I sailed the Triumph. I was able to get one anytime I wanted at the Casino and the Cigar bar. I didn't try any of the others for Mojitos so can't say for sure if the other bars have have mint now.

For those wanting to "bring your own" mint: The mint used in Mojitos is a variety of spearmint. The same used in mint juleps. The most used variety is Kentucy Colonel. It has a less bitter taste than the regular species of spearmint and is the one most grown on a commercial scale.

We know! Our nursery produces the starter plants for growers. Since the Mojito became popular, demand for this variety has more than tripled. Good for us...................:D

I also like this drink, especially if made correctly and garnished with sugar cane in true Cuban fashion.

This is what we have found also. However they did get some mint leaves for us one day and the wife had several great Mojitos. On one cruise we looked in the caper and they were having a special on Mojitos in one of the bar areas that was only for a limited time.

Yep, Ecstasy had them for $3.75 as the port special.

Ever hear of Tupperware? Only and Agricultural issue if you're taking them off the ship. I'm suggesting the OP only take them to the bar.

I think I hear Will and or Jon asking for lunch.

I stand corrected, I mis spoke on the agricultural rules my apologies to the OP.

The best ones I've ever gotten were when we were on the Legend in 2007. The bartender at the Atrium Bar made the best ones. The rest are kind of like you described above. And I can't find a descent pre-mixed one to smuggle on with me. On the Legend I had to order doubles to get a descent sized glass but they were good.:D

That's encouraging since I will be on the Legend in November!

Wow! After reading through this thread I want one REAL bad now!!! I think I will bring the mint leaves along in Sept and carry them on in my bag in a small plastic container. I don't see what the problem would be if they ask about them I'll let them eat one!! The taste will certainly stand out and tell them I'm not bringing anything illegal onboard. The things ya have to do to get a drink these days.
