Anyone play Craps on Carnival ships?

Recommended Posts

Usually pretty slow early evening, if it's even open. Generally don't see it open until during late seating. It's usually pretty hopping after late seating dinner.

On sea days, it will open, just later than the rest of the tables.

$5/min, double odds max.

My husband is a craps player ( I play too, but find it very boring after a few minutes), on all the RCCL crusies we have taken the tables get busy during peak nighttime hours, but can get cold quickly. Sometimes the tables (usually only 1 or 2 per ship) are packed, other times my husband plays alone.

But last year on Voyager he won $1500 playing craps, so I don't complain. I hope the tables on Splendor next month are just as kind to him.

Playing craps on a cruise ship may be the worst odds in casino at 2 X odds. Most casinos are predominantly 5x odds. For those who do not understand craps it's a little difficult to get all this but when playing the "point" or the number that hockey puck is sitting above after the come out roll and you put chips behind the line backin up the pass this is your odds play and should be maximized to take full advantage of your odds. be. On a ship you can only play 2.5 times your pass line bet on a 6 or 8 and 2x all other #'s w/ full 2x odds. In a normal casino w/ 5Xodds a player can play 5X their pass line play on 6 or 8...4X on 5&9 & 3 X on 4&10. I c a lot of players not taking advantage of the best odds on the table and putting the amount behind pass line that is = to what's on the pass...big no no...at least play double and to have full odds and/or play up to the limit amount. House edge on a ship w/ full 2x odds w/ player taking odds is .606% (horrible) and .326 at 5X odds. This isnt exactly layman terms but plain and simply craps on a cruise a decided house advantage over a true craps table w/ 5X odds. Confused yet? I'll talk about the come bet if not.

The odds are still VERY good with only double odds - near the best you can do in a casino. MUCH better than roulette or some of the odd games, or slots. Look at wizardofodds.com for more info on any casino game.

You are correct the odds are still better on craps table than any other table game in casino even w/ 2x odds but there is nothing worse on a hot roll not being able to capitalize on 5x odds. For the newbie to craps keep it basic and play the pass line w/ table minimum prior to the point being made (hockey puck on the table) called the come out roll..... 7 or 11 comes out you win that amount... a craps or 2, 3 or 11 you lose. Any other number rolled 4,5,6,8,9,10 becomes shooter's point and the roll continues. The shooter must basically roll that number before he/she rolls a 7. If a 7 is rolled before point all $ on table is taken by house...7 out. Getting to the odds play on a ship w/ 2 x odds you will place max odds behind the pass line after that comeout roll for example you have $5 on pass...come out roll is a 6 you can now put $10 behind the pass line and you will be paid full odds when shooter rolls that 6 before a 7. Any other numbers rolled during the course of the shooter rolling dice and the shooter keeps rolling dice. You can place $ down on any other #'s during the roll if you feel the shooter is hot and be paid the odds on those #'s as well just keep in mind as soon as a 7 comes out the board is cleared. The best odds will always be behind the pass line, the come bets and when you buy a number which is another subject so it's smart to maximize these odds at all times to keep the house advantage at it's lowest so for the beginner maximize those behind the pass line wagers!

Playing craps is actually the best odds in the casino. But a good try at explaining the rules while trying to confuse people. ;)

Ok - I like the crap tables too - been playing for 20+ years - mostly Vegas, Bossier, and Lake Charles. I don't play anything else (including slots) and I have some strict self-imposed limits on bankroll, losses, winnings, and time of play. I win some, I lose some, but I always have fun doing it! :D

The Facts: Craps offers players some of the best odds in the house. The Pass Line bet only has a house edge of 1.414%. If you put down "double odds" with your Pass Line bet the house's edge drops to .606%. Compare that to the house edge of 5.3% for roulette and about 1.5% for blackjack. The odds offered on the ship are OK by me. ;)

Advice: Learn the basics! Don't just step up and lay your money down. It doesn't cost anything to watch! The only time you actually must place a Pass Line bet is when you're the shooter. If you're not shooting you don't have to bet nor are you required to shoot. Learn how the Pass Line Bet with Odds works - you can have a lot of fun with just this one type of bet.

This is a good place to start: Basic Craps Play

Good Luck & Have fun!

On our last cruise two of the couples we met from roll call played... I watched for a little bit but I had no idea what was happening. In the capers they will list when they will have a "class" to teach you how to play. I went in there but there were a ton of people around the table. I said nahhh forget it....

Besides... I've heard it is really addictive.... like I need another addiction in my life... Hockey, cruising.... I've got a addictive personality!! :D

Back in September on the Triumph the craps table was very nice to me...however it was always packed when it was open, and when it wasnt open everyone would ask the pit boss to open the table. I feel like we weer constantly hovering around the craps table with a bunch of people waiting for it to open.

'welcome. :)

Also, did I note on the Victory that the Field "cheats" you relative to the normal payout? Usually one of the 2 or 12 pays triple, but I think they both only paid double. Was I imagining that?

I normally play the "don't" side since there are more ways to throw a 7 than any other number. If the shooter is hot, I'll change.

Which works against the "don't" player on the come out role. Thus, the odds either way are roughly the same. Moreover, it is a helluva lot more fun to play the pass line and enjoy the comraderie of the rest of the table.

Just wondering if the tables are busy? And does the Fascination have craps tables? Thanks!

Yes, they have craps tables...usually one or two...some of the newer, larger ships might have 3.

It's hard to find an interesting table. Most people are clueless when it comes to craps and avoid those tables. But, once in a while, you'll find an active table where there's some action. You won't have any trouble getting on a table, for sure.

The only real action I've ever seen was at the roulette tables and blackjack or other card games.

The Fascination has a craps table. I enjoyed it very much in November and am looking forward to visiting it again on Thursday!:D

Lots of good advice in previous posts. I normally play the line with odds and then across the board once the point is set. This way I rake it a little with every non-"crappy" roll and my pile grows nicely! Of course when the table gets cold you have to walk away or it will drain you dry!

As for crowds, I've found very quiet tables on my last few times - which I try my best to remedy.

Me to the rest of the players (before I roll): "What do we want?"

The rest of the players once they have been coached (as I roll): "MONEY!"

If you hear this in a casino, you are probably cruising with me!

My wife and I won over $800 the first night of our first cruise shooting craps on the Triumph 5 years ago;). Also, we are not big betters, but do back our odds and place the 6 & 8 if the table seems warm or hot. We played almost every night to some degree and left with over $500 in winnings. Hope to win a little on our upcoming trip March 22 on the Legend.
