Anyone play Craps on Carnival ships?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, when we were playing craps on Carnival Victory in early Feb. my husband had to speak up a few times about getting his money or it being given to someone else. Granted one of the times, it was a new girl and the Pit Boss had to step in and see what happened, but I wouldn't think they'd have a new person working the table while it was hot.

It has happened to me a few times on different lines. Sometimes they pretend not to hear me as sometimes I take my bets off then put them back on again later.

I am a craps player for many years and ran into a funny situation last year on Glory, was wondering if this is the same on all carnival ships.

When rolling the dice, they would not let you do anything but pick them up and toss'em. Pit boss would yell at you if you tried to set them. God forbid if you tossed them against the wall (playing with the dice).

I do get frustrated when a shooter takes what seems like hours before tossing the dice (probably only 15-30 seconds - seems like hours). But, I like to set them a certain way and grasp them a certain way before I toss. Only takes me a few seconds, been doing it for years. Was strange not being able to. Was funny to watch a shooter for the first time on the boat get yelled at. It's almost like they didn't want action at the table!

Has anyone else run into this rule?

The only place that has happened to me was at the Resorts Hotel in Atlantic City. I don't play there anymore needless to say. I also like to set the dice a certain way before I roll them. If they complain then maybe I won't play. There are other casinos and other cruise lines. Carnival is one of the better lines as far as cruising goes. If this happens to me then maybe I'll cruise more on Celebrity.

Just wondering if the tables are busy? And does the Fascination have craps tables? Thanks!

I went on Fascination a year or so ago and craps is my game. I did well on that ship. The craps tables there paid for my entire cruise. Thanks, Carnival! :D

The funniest thing I ever saw in a Casino was a shooter playing the don't. He was a hot shooter and rolled the dice for 25 minutes. He also ran out of money since he kept making don't pass bets and don't come bets.

I guess you would be laughing at me. I exclusively play the don't. Why wouldn't you. It gives you the best odds in craps. I play the game with a twist though which hedges my bets somewhat. But once I get my don't points up all it takes is for big red to come out and I get paid. Unfortunately, with every game there is a house edge. When you play the don't you have to watch out for when the table gets hot. Points get rolled in streaks. That is when the don't player needs to stop playing for awhile. When them sevens come out then the player gets back in.

Blackjack gives the casino too high an edge. Just think about it, BJ pays even money if you win. The only edge a player has is if BJ is dealt and then it pays only 3-2. That is the equivilent of making a point when 5 or 9 is the point.

Wow, I love this thread already. Great posts.

What you say here is fact, but the problem with blackjack is when you get stuck sitting next to idiots that make foolish decisions that affect how the cards come out. I also hate it when the dealer tries to be mr. helper and gives advice. I used to play this game a lot, until I found the best game in the casino, that being craps! :D

Which works against the "don't" player on the come out role. Thus, the odds either way are roughly the same. Moreover, it is a helluva lot more fun to play the pass line and enjoy the comraderie of the rest of the table.

Good post but if you are there to win money, the don't is the way to go. If you are there for a good time and want to be in a cheering section and more times than not lose money play the pass line.

I am a little mouse when I have three don't points up on the table and the shooter rolls big red. I love it when they move some chips from the pass line players to my area to pay me. Call me a bastard, but I am a lucky one! HAHA!

Yo Eleven - I agree with your posts completely. As another who plays the "don'ts", I am also a very quiet player. I know I'm not a popular player. I also don't shoot the dice. I usually kill myself if I do.

I read a few days ago that a woman in Atlantic City won the record for the longest roll of the dice. She rolled them for 4 hours and 18 minutes before throwing a 7. She was a fairly new player. She started the table with $100. They wouldn't say what she walked away with.

Yeah I know all about that woman in Atlantic City. All pass player pals were rubbing it all in my face thinking they were getting the best of me. The funny thing is that this happens how often? Once every 10 years or so in ONE casino in the world at ONE craps table. What they don't understand is EVEN if I happened to be playing at this table once I lost all my don't points on this roll I sure as heck would not have put up a new don't come bet. I would have waited until she seven out. But in this particular situation I would have probably jumped out the window in disgust watching her roll all those points. LOL!

As for shooting the dice as a don't player. I shoot when the table is slow or of course when I am playing alone. I like to throw the dice. I toss them out without setting them. Just wham them out there. When you do that, the chance of a seven seems to increase even more. The only thing I hate about throwing the dice as a don't player is that you HAVE to have money on the don't pass line to throw. If you have three don't points and the one on the don't pass line gets gobbled up, you must put another bet down in order to continue. It sucks so generally I pass the dice. I couldn't give a rat's behind what others think about the way I play. I just have a smile on my face on my way to the casino birdcage. :D

How much do you think that she won?

Well we know she started with 100 dollar bank and she was not an expert craps player by any stretch. We know she played the pass line and did not roll a seven in 154 rolls. My guess is she played a 10 dollar minimum table as it is rare to find 5 dollar minimum tables. Now she rolled 154 times. Let's determine the MINIMUM amount of money she made. If she were to throw an eleven 154 times in a row with no point established she would win EVEN money. This means that she was paid 10 dollars 154 times. This would equate to: $1540.00.

If she did not take any odds on her points, then she would still be even money so we are still looking at $1540.00. If she took odds on her bets then the amount would be significantly more. Probably over double. Maybe in the $5000.00 range. Could be more. All depends on her odds bet. That is what makes guessing so hard. But my guess is she didn't take odds often as she wasn't an expert player. Perhaps at times after she made the point her fellow players advised her to take odds. If she did it would be hard to estimate because we don't know how much odds she took. My best guess is she made between $1540 and $3500. This starting off with a 100 dollar bank. Who knows? The casino is embarassed so they aren't disclosing anything. LOL!

Wether the tables are busy or not depends on the cruise and the passengers playing. All Carnival ships have craps tables. It is a big money maker. I've been playing for somewhere near 20 years. Carnival, at least used to, have the craps tables open during most hours the Casino is open. While other cruise lines open craps tables at 1900 hours Carnival has them open most afternoons, and I've left the table somewhere near 0400 hours, that was on a cruise two years ago on the Miracle. Other cruise lines are more strict about the hours they are open.

There is no such thing as a "hot roll". Each toss of the dice is an independent event that is totally unaffected by the previous roll(s). This is why most gamblers eventually lose - they do not understand statistics.

For example, if you flip a coin 9 times and it comes up heads each time, the odds of heads on the 10th flip is still 1 in 2.

DON

Each roll of the dice might be an independent event. However, there is something called a flucuation of probability. There might be times when the point is established and the seven comes up shortly after if not the next roll. In Craps this is called cold dice. However, there is a flucuation where a shooter could roll the dice for quiet some time with lots of numbers repeating. The seven might only be rolled on a come out roll. This is called hot dice. I have seen both phenomenon several times over. I've even was the shooter a couple of times when hot dice came up.

Yo Eleven: You must play your game regardless of what people think. Just play your game and hope for the best.

Plus it is more profitable. You take the odds to the fullest amount the casino will allow and you get paid the odds. However, if you play the don't you lay the odds. Or just play the don't which is an even money bet.
