Thanks for the help! Since there have been so many questions about this.. I just called the Wyndham to confirm. Day passes are available for $40pp. Includes Buffet lunch at Seaside Cafe. No discount for children. BABIES, under 3, who will not be eating at the buffet, are free. There are no $15 day pass (no lunch) available. And the beach is off limits to those who do not pay for a pass. (I asked this specifically since there seems to be some back and forth about this). Passes are available at the front desk. As for transportation, you can take the #10 jitney from downtown on George Street for $1.25pp. (George Street is a side street of Bay, just across from the front entrance of the Straw Market). When you enter the jitney tell the driver that you are going go the wyndham, when you approach.. say "next stop" and he'll stop and let you off. (pay as you leave.. exact $$ only.. no change given.). Do the same in reverse when you are going back to the port, It's easy..

Will it be obvious that I am approaching the Wyndham? One last question if you check this thread again. Would you have any other beach recommendations or other suggestions for 3 moms and their 12 year old daughters? I thought the Wyndham looked nice but you may know a better beach option or activity. Thanks.

Thanks. Yes, the Jitney is a small bus that holds about 30 people. The route number is displayed on all sided of the bus.. so you'll know you're on the right one. You'll know when you are approaching.. you'll see the marquis and big pink and purple buildings. . You're driver will likely be stopping for other riders as well. As for recommendations.. I have two favorites to relax with Kids. Wynhdam which has a nice pool w/ slide, food, restrooms, lifeguards, shopping and a casino.. and the more laid back Blue Lagoon Island (http://www.dolphinencounters.com/island-all.php) which includes the ferry ride, lunch, water toys and you can also wander over to watch the dolphin programs as well. ($45pp). If you want interaction with the stingrays.. Blackbeards Cay would also be a fun day trip. All have restrooms, changing areas, food concessions, bars and LIFEGUARDS. Can't comment on Freeport, except that it's 100 miles away on another island.

TangleWeb Posted March 8, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks so much Scubagirrl, you are a wealth of knowledge. I haven't posted in this forum, but have been reading :) I would like to second Joanne's thanks for the valuable information you've posted & the time you spend answering questions. It was very nice of you to make that call & get the current information on the Wynhdam. My wife, adult son & family friend will be in Nassau Sunday May 24th, but we will only be there for 5 & a half hours, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, so we probably won't be doing a resort visit. Next time... ;) ~Dave

Thanks, Joanne Jxr, Tangle and friends.. you are all welcome. I love helping you enjoy "my" island. Knowing what to expect, whether good or bad, makes for a more positive experience. As for safety on the jitney... yes, they are safe for solo travelers. I do it all the time.
Shorty1007 Posted March 8, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I am wondering if anyone knows if the pools there are heated? We will be there on the first of April and already have this excursion booked through the cruiseline. I can't wait. The pools there look wonderful and by 14 year old will love the slide. I just hope it is warm enough.

You will have full use of the sheraton property next door (they are connected).. their pool is heated.

Shorty1007 Posted March 9, 2009 #16 Share Posted March 9, 2009 We are going on the Conquest. I think we will be there on April 2nd I believe. It was $92.00 dollars a person. I believe it is 5½ hours. I know you probably could do it cheaper on your own, but we prefer the security of not getting left by the ship.

aunixguru Posted March 9, 2009 #18 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Pool was cold, I'd say around 72. Kids did not care one bit. They we're in from the second we got there until 3 hours later when I had to pull them out. Here is a link to some detailed information about my Wyndham excursion.http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=944283 Here are a couple more pics. Shorty1007 Posted March 9, 2009 #19 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Scuba Girl --The excursion is called Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort Day Pass. Thanks for your info on the pools. My daughter probably will not care how cold the pool is, but I can't stand a cold pool. Cool okay, cold not so okay. Maybe I will use the pool next door that is heated. I am really surprised that their pool is not heated though. We used to go to the same hotel in Florida each year and they had a heated pool. It was great. I would think that in a place like the Bahamas when they have people coming for the sun and swimming when it may not be quite time to swim that the pools would be heated so that it would be more comfortable to their guest. Just my opinion. I will enjoy it either way. Drinks included.

Freeport is 100 miles North on a different island.. I'm sure Viva will be fun as well.

If you child is around 15ish just watch carefully as around that age they seem to be able to "sneak" a drink. Have stayed there and was nice for a 3-4 day vacation. It is about a 2 1/2-3 star AI... no "international" booze and draft beer. Food is good.... beach is real nice and big hot tub/pool. If you are bringing a towel take it instead of the "Carnival towel" - you stand out with Carnival's.
adonisr Posted March 12, 2009 #22 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Scubagirl - We will be in Nassau on July 3. I think there are 4 ships in port that day. How crowded will Blue Lagoon be? Does their ferry pick up at the cruise dock? Do you know how often their ferry runs? Thanks, Donnie You have to reserve space on one of thier ferries. They leave from the paradise island ferry Terminal. The Beach pass costs $45pp and includes the ferry to the island, lunch and watertoys. The island shouldn't get "crowded" since it's controlled by reservations. I believe the ferry leaves 4x per day. (8:30, 10:30, 1:30 and 3:30 ) Last boat BACK from the island is 4pm. http://www.dolphinencounters.com
amio111 Posted March 12, 2009 #24 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I think everyone is getting the 2 different Wyndams confused. The one in Nassau is 40$pp I can't find anywhere the one in Freeport even has any day passes. They offer it throught the ship for 92$ which seems a bit too much but I can't find if you can buy it on your own. Please let me know if anyone can actually find the Freeport info... The Wyndham on GBI (Freeport) is the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach. It does offer a "day pass' which is somewhere around $60pp. The problem is getting there. A taxi to Viva is around $15-20pp from the pier. By the time you pay for the day and taxi's back and forth you are better off just doing the ship excursion... if you have more than 4 going it might be worth it to do on your on.
