Found the National park, but that is 1 hr drive from pier...Junkanoo which just looks like a drunk fest and Wyndham Fortuna day pass throught the ship is 92$pp. Any suggestions with a 3 yr old who loves the sand!! How long are you there? What ship? If you just want sand and beach pay $5pp for a shared cab to Our Lucaya area (Westin/Sheraton resort/shopping area/food/drinks/casino) go to the beach and play in the sand for a bit, wander over to the shopping area and buy some trinkets... then catch a cab back and either have the pool to yourself or before getting on wander over to the newly opened Pier eatery for a view. thompsongunner06 Posted March 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2009 Do Sand Dollar Cruise,,,5 bucks from ship to Port Lucaya,,,after that(bring extra money for a swim with a "fish" or two),,,you can walk across the street to a free beach,,then walk back and catch a ride back to ship for 5 bucks!!!! Capt Tony is a great guy and a great cat to go on. I give him 110% review. He charges 45 bucks for a snorkel 3 hr trip.

metalmuff26 Posted March 16, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Do any of you know how much a cab ride is to the Westin/Sheraton from the dock? We have to be picked up for an excursion there. Just wondering, trying to judge how much time we need. Thanks!

But he answered mine, so don't worry if you don't hear from him for a few days. If you're leaving soon, I seem to recall a phone # on his site. JUST JUMP!... and as for getting back on... remember everybody has balance problems at sea... you may look better than some. Seriously just let Capt. Tony know and he will tell whether he can handle it or not... Bahamas does not have "accessibility" laws BUT most people will do what they can to help. jbags58 Posted March 18, 2009 #15 Share Posted March 18, 2009 WOW!! Thanks for the info! Just in case. The WYNDHAM FORTUNA resort is absolutey Beautiful. I would say it's well worth the $$ but depends on what it entails. You could check into it. It's an ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT, so if that day pass included the food and drink. It would be COOL! I am going with the girls for a week as my girlfriend has a time share there! Lemme see if I can add the link! http://vivaresorts.com/all-inclusive/Caribbean/Viva_Wyndham_Fortuna_Beach/index.php GOOD LUCK! Julie :D

BOARDTALKER Posted March 18, 2009 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2009 Dear Amio111, Ten years ago we did an International Timeshare Exchange to Freeport in the Bahamas for 2weeks and had a wonderful time! We were there in early October. The weather was fantastic! The Ritz Hotel situated on Taino Beach is in my opinion ideal for young children. The waters are crystal clear, warm and calm with just a ripple and not a wave in sight. Pristine white sand and just easy wading into the water that turns a myriad of colours before your eyes. Ample Covered thatched Lapas and chairs on the beach. This hotel was not overcrowded and a 5minute walk along the beach to Pirates where we ate almost everyday- a Shaded Beach Restaurant where everyone hangs out and lounges on a hammock. The hotel has a water taxi and ferries you to Lucaya which takes +- 10minutes. The Marina is on Lucaya. There are boutiques- restaurants - hair braiding-colourful Tshirts dresses -Fridge magnets -bric a brac all housed in brilliant coloured upmarket true Caribbean Style architecture and outdoor racks and rails with clothing for sale on the square. In the centre is a magnificent open air circular mall with a bandstand and the yachts in port and a pier. You are truly blessed when you experience The Bahamas hospitality and unsurpassed beaches. cherith Posted March 20, 2009 #21 Share Posted March 20, 2009 a note on Taino Beach resort. It Really is a great place to take kids. The information on the beach being clear and waveless is errant though as that will change with the wind direction. It CAN be beautiful calm and clear, but it can also be far too choppy to be enjoyable. But being that all the beaches are on the south side of the island, what you will find on one is what you will find on most. The best beach for sand to visit if it is windy is Xanadu as there is a reef and canal breakwater that keeps it calm, however you'd want to do this only at low tide as the sand up top isn't the best sand to be found. The pool at Taino Beach resort though has a huge shallow lagoon pool that is perfect for wee waders. We live here in Freeport and sometimes just go to hang out down there. They play local Bahamian music poolside and they do have a restaurant on the beach (mediocre), but it is a good choice that should please most people. I've uploaded some pictures that I've taken at the pool here http://picasaweb.google.com/mike.cherith/TainoBeachResort#

It's going to be myself, DH and 20 yr old son. Are you on the Conquest that week? I see Tony has changed his reservation policy. Recently he was saying he didn't take reservations, now he takes "soft reservations" Meaning he'll pencil you in on the tour date, but you don't pay until you get there. Well, that's good. Better send him an email right away!
