ATM on board?

This ties in a bit: Can you get British pounds from the currency exchange machine on board or is there an ATM handy at the Southampton port? I'm curious about how to pay for my taxi ride to the Southampton train station after disembarking.

I don't know first hand about ATMs on QV although I believe she also has one in the casino area.

The exchange machine on QM2 did offer Pounds as an option and I would recommend exchanging on ship. There is no ATM readily available in the cruise terminal that I saw (and I was looking!) although you could have the cabby stop at a bank on the way if one was open.

Since the machine on board (QM2) had the worst exchange rate I've ever seen, and I wished to purchase enough currency to make a difference, I had the cabby stop at the Bureau de Change on my way to the railroad station in Southampton. That said, the cab fare was about £5, so it won't make too much difference, but I'm not sure what the minimum amount was for the on-board machine...

Why not purchase a small amount of local currency at your own bank before departure?

How about on the Queen Vic?

Hi, i just returned from the QV, (Sydney to Singapore) and yes there is an ATM in the casino on deck 2, close to the change box, that dispenses US$. Also opposite was a currency exchanger. Yes, the exchange rate and fee was lousy, but it meant we could exchange any leftover $US for Singapore dollars. Mind you, we would have got a better rate at any of many exchange booths scatterd around Singapore, but we didnt know that at the time.

Depending on the port, a bank was bought on board for changing US$'s and a post office for posting mail.

Hope you enjoy the QV as much as we did,

cheers

Sharon

Thank you Sharon.

I'm so pleased all went so well with you.

Having been such a QE2 fan, it will be very hard not to make comparisons!

Hi blueandwhite,

We travelled with another couple who have previously been on the QE2 about 3 years ago. After they reminded themselves that QV is a totally different ship they were fine. If you have any queries re the QV i will try and answer honestly. We were in Brittania and met some wonderful people from all levels. I the only diference i could see was they had a couple of extra decks to themselves. Their staterooms might have been bigger and they had their own dining area. Otherwise i couldnt see any difference.

Where and when are you sailing?

regards

sharon
