It will be just my BF and me on this up coming cruise we are both 22 and we wanted to know who will be assigned with us at our table. We just didnt want to be stuck with a group of people in there 50s or a family with babies. Do they do seating by age?

On mine and my hubbys last 2 cruises ..(one was a honeymoon.. the other was just a vacay)... Our honeymoon cruise, we were at a table with 3 other honeymoon couples in their 20s...(we were 22) at the time... on our last one.. we were 23 and at a table with 3 other couples in their 20s...so yea... we were assigned to tables with "similar" people and ages

Hey! What's wrong with people in their 50's? Some of us are really fun. (I'm not quite there yet.....49) I'm only kidding, I understand why you're asking.

I think Carnival does a pretty good job of trying to match table mates up with similar age folks. You may get a table for just the 2 of you. Or, you may end up with others close to your age.

If, for any reason, you don't like the table you are assigned to....you can always speak to the Maitre D' and ask to be move to a different table for the rest of the cruise.

Before we sailed with our own group we were placed with people of all ages and one time we were at a table of 6 and we were the only ones that spoke English:rolleyes:

Since then we either get anytime or a table with our own group.........

I spoke to the Maitre'd about this just last week. He told me that they do try to pair couples with couples, and age groups and even language groups so that everyone will have an enjoyable experience.

He also told me that if you're concerned you should ask to sit at a large table rather than a small. That way if there is one couple that you don't connect with, there will be others that you may.

I've never had a table where I didn't know people; this was our first time. We wound up with a table for 8 but only 6 people were there (3 couples). All were around the same age and one of those two couples lives only 1 1/2 away from us. She was a teacher just like my hubby and we connected with them right away. At the end of the cruise we exchanged emails and I really hope that we keep in touch.

However, if you have dinner with your tablemates the first night and really hate it, you can also asked to be moved and they will try to accommodate.

EWWWW who would want to be stuck at a table with OLD 50 somethings?

I certainly wouldn't want to be seated with any. It would ruin my dinner if one of them happened to expire during my meal.;)

My boyfriend and I, also age 22/23, went on a cruise last January and had the same experience these other people had. We were grouped with another couple in their 20s and we are planning another cruise with them soon!

On one cruise I went with my mom, aunt and grandma and surprisingly we were seated with the same type of group for dinner.

I think that carnival does an incredible job with their seating arrangements. I never worry about who my table mates are because I trust carnival's judgement.

I probably just jinxed myself for my upcoming cruises. haha!

Geez... What's wrong with being 50? I take my Geritol every day! :D I can be a lot of fun as long as you don't keep me up too late.

I'm just kidding, of course. I understand your desire to be with folks in the same age group. But did you really have to pick 50 as your example? You could have said 80... No offense to the octogenarians in the crowd, of course

Its not the 50s I stated that wrong more like the 70s. My last cruise I went with my grandparents that were in there 70s and all they would do is complain. They are on vacay for goodness sakes.

My parents are in there 50s and I love hanging out with them.

If you do find yourself at a table with different age groups give it a try. If after the first night it doesnt work, ask to be switched.

One of our best tables was with a women in her 40's, her aunt, a brother and sister in their 40s and a couple in their 20s. We were in our 30s. Wehn we first sat down, I thought, OH NO!

We got along so good that we closed the dining room every night, went to the shows together and then the casino. That has been about 8 years ago and we all still keep in touch. Sometimes you just never know.

Hope you have a great cruise

Nadine

Our last cruise (not Carnival) we were seated w/ a couple about 20 years older than we were, at a table for 4. And they were Canadians. AND they were FRENCH Canadians. AND the woman barely spoke a lick of English. My BF and I were thinking it was going to be a loooong and boring dinner each night. By the second day we were all laughing so much through dinner that the woman says, " I theenk everyone is Jell-oooze of us." We now email this couple regularly (she emails in Frenglish) and had one of our best cruises partly because of the friendship we made with them. We're also going to cruise with them again. Go with an open mind.

CCL usually does a great job, 10 cruises and no complaints. We have always been seated with people around our age (10 years either way). Once we had a table for eight - 2 police officers, 1 Military , 1 Prosecutor, 1 profiler/interrogator, 1 corrections officer, 1 firefighter, and 1 public defender...we had a great time but the poor P.D. felt alone on many topics (or so he said). Our waiter called us the "Law and Order" table.

I'm in my 6o's would you want to sit with me? I don't think I would want to sit with you. Twenty-two is just to young to know anything except loud music and drugs. Just kidding, just trying to shake you up a little.

They do usually put people around the same ages together, but if you got "stuck" with older or younget people you could ask to have another table the next night. It's only dinner so just enjoy.:)

  • 3 weeks later...

Couple of years ago our table had 4 young Australians, think very early 20's, a couple in their 30's, and then us, in our 40's with DH closer to 50 than 40. Now, I wonder what those young people thought at first....

Anyway, we had the best time, and more fun at our table than any of the surrounding tables. We met up more than once after dinner for drinks/dancing, and played a hilarious game that one of them had brought along.

This was Celebrity, Alaska, and in May... so maybe we were the next youngest people after the 20's and 30's for Celebrity to have seated us with them. :) Whatever, the cruiseline did good!!!

I personally think Carnival has a sense of humor when they are dealing out the table assignments. On both of our previous cruises, we have had a Canadian couple, a couple from the North, and a non-English speaking couple...and we're usually the odd man out, as we are from Georgia and have that "fresh from the swamp" accent. So far, the first night has been spent trying to figure out what everyone is saying. The next night the non-English speaking couple gets a private table. By the 4th night, we're all making fun of each other's accents, and by night 7, we're sad to say good-bye! I think we've always been the oldest at our table, but that's ok with me, I can have fun with any age group.:D

I'll let you know how next week turns out! I bet since we have another couple traveling with us we will end up at a 4 top, which is fine with me too!:)

How do you suppose they'd deal with us, being a same-gender couple (although I don't supposed there's any reason for them to automatically think we're "together" necessarily)?

I had heard that you stand a better chance of getting a table for 2 by visiting the maitre'd immediately upon boarding, but as this is our 1st cruise, I have no personal experience to draw from.

Guys, I say if anyone has a problem with it, it's their problem! I'd love for you to sit with us!!:) A friend of mine just had a commitment ceremony with her partner last weekend, they are on a cruise now. I just got an email from her she said all her "fears" were put to rest within an hour of boarding...

I wouldn't worry about a thing, be yourselves, those who have a problem..well, it's theirs to deal with, not yours.;)

Have an awesome time!:D
