Vbrogdon Posted April 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2009 I saw on another post that did a comparison from RCC to Disney and they mentioned how good the bakery items are at the Cafe Promenade. I thought all the stores at the promendae are fee based but the poster said the cookies and such were very good...and free. Just wanted to confirm.... Any other info on AOS is appreciated. We are going on AOS on May 10th out of SJU! Thanks Vicki
jonsmom Posted April 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2009 The last time we sailed RCCL, sandwiches, cookies were free in the Promenade.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted April 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Hi, With the exception of the specialty teas/ coffees, everything : sandwiches, cookies, desserts etc are free. And yummy.

mistergq Posted April 13, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2009 The promenade is a mixture of fee based and free stuff. There are plenty of options that don't cost any money. And then if you want a speciality item (Ben and Jerrys, espresso, etc) you pay for it.
Vbrogdon Posted April 13, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Great to know...so I assume the price board indicates which items are free and which are fee based?

firefly333 Posted April 13, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2009 I missed them until the last night of our cruise. After 10 am, the worker in the cafe says they bring out the biscotti, which are under the cookies in the very bottom of the glass case.
FreewayFortune Posted April 13, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2009 My absolute favourites were the ham and cheese croissants. The cookies were really good too. I often choose to grab a few sandwiches from the cafe promenade for a late breakfast/early lunch instead of going to the Windjammer.
Cruisingjer Posted April 13, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2009 I agree, the ham & cheese were fansastic. I think I had 6 of them a day! :)
CarolS19 Posted April 13, 2009 #11 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Cafe Promenade is one of my favourite places to eat - and it's all free. Great for a late night snack
ksuds Posted April 13, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2009 For the ships that do not have the promenade, they state that the items are not free. We were on the Granduer and they have the same cookies/pastries.....but they are kept at Ben and Jerry's. When I requested the chocolate chip cookie that I have always gotten free, I was told that items are only free if you make a purchase of coffee. I thought that was the craziest thing I've ever heard. On another note, if you went in the casino in the AM, they had all the same items out FREE. I wish all ships practiced the same policies...........as they say they should. Abear2 Posted April 13, 2009 #14 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Besides all the yummy sandwiches and cookies they also have pizza. All free ! :D I love Ben and Jerry's but why pay for this ice cream when you can get it free outside on the deck near the pool area. I know it's not as good, but hey I like the free stuff. :D
mamaza Posted April 13, 2009 #15 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Bring plastic zip-loc bags just for this place. They have the greatest cookies (free) and you should bring some back to your room. I also carry a couple of insolated coffee cups to carry coffee back (they have tea and hot chocolet too) for in room snacking.

pinkmonkey14 Posted April 14, 2009 #17 Share Posted April 14, 2009 For the windjammer can you just walk in and eat then 39 minutes later come in and eat again?
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted April 14, 2009 #18 Share Posted April 14, 2009 For the windjammer can you just walk in and eat then 39 minutes later come in and eat again? Yeap. You can eat as often as you want on board 24 hours a day. Returning to WJ during opening hours is one of life's little pleasures ;)
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted April 14, 2009 #19 Share Posted April 14, 2009 Is the hot chocolate free/included? It's free. You make it yourself in WJ and in food outlets. They have sachets so you mix it yourself. Similarly if you order hot chocolate through room service you get the sachets and a jug of hot water. Vbrogdon Posted April 19, 2009 Author #21 Share Posted April 19, 2009 So, is there anywhere onboard to get a paper cup of coffee? We like to take our coffee and walk the decks in the morning and that would be hard to do with the small cups they use at the buffet. If you do take your own insolated mugs, will they fill them for you or just give you the standard small cup and you have to pour it in your own mug? Thanks, Vicki
julesbeara Posted April 19, 2009 #22 Share Posted April 19, 2009 My husband bought a thermal mug in port while on the Adventure and ended up using it for coffee from the Cafe Promenade. They had delicous Shrimp Salad Sandwiches on the Mariner this past June. We are regulars when the casino closes.

Thanks, Vicki They might fill your insolated cup, but you can do it yourself at the Prominade Cafe, 24 hours a day. As answered below, there are paper cups in the Cafe but I'd use 2 if you are walking around with one. The coffee is HOT
