Hello Cruise Lovers,

Found this site days ago and got hooked with it ever since.

Past several years, my wife and I been cruised with Grandeur, Carnival Fantasy, Norwegian Dream, Serenade OTSs, Freedom OTSs, Pride of Hawaii and a week ago Enchantment. Not too many times but perhaps they all had great weather and few times with good friends, we just loved everyone of them especially the last one from Panama to Columbia and ABC (that cruise just only two of us) and we are looking forward to go back that region again.

The question I like to ask is: How do you enjoy a day onboard.

For me is up on top deck 5.30 walking and taking sunrise photos and inside of the ship (since every ship has it’s unique decorations). Later my wife and I usually have breakfast at dining room, go on shore for bus tours, lunch at the buffet, have some sun tanning, dinner at MDR, catch the show and take a short walk before back to our cabin. We spend and enjoy most of the time out of the cabin.

Personally I like smaller ships, Serenade OTSs is the best. Freedom OTSs…a bit too much and I don’t think I feel relax on Oasis at all. May be I still have a lot to catch up. What do you think?

Cheers,

We don't get up quite that early, but we don't waste the day, either! We do the dining room for breakfast, and then I head to the pool. Hubby isn't much on beach/pool time, so he'll hit the casino for a while, then he'll come out to the pool for an hour or two. I stay at the pool most of the day--sometimes, I'll grab a bite from the buffet (not a big buffet fan!) and after hubby gets ready for dinner, I'll go to the cabin and start my "transformation". We meet either in the casino or at a bar, have a few drinks, eat at the late seating, and then wander the ship until we can't!!! Hit the hay, and do it all over again!

We get up in the 6:30 to 7:00 range and go to breakfast in the dining room. Usually go back to the cabin after that and just get in gear for the day. If it's a sea day, we spend most of the time until lunch walking laps around the outside decks and some top to bottom rounds on the stairs inside. We check out any lectures or such that interest us. We usually eat lunch in the dining room. Afternoon is more of the same. Sometimes there's a movie or something we want to see. We eat dinner early and usually go to the early show, if it's not something DH hates (read that as anything with singing and dancing ;)). If it's warm, we might go back outside for a while. Go to bed pretty early. Gee! Are we boring or what?

Port days vary a lot, depending on where it is.

I have to say that I enjoy taking pictures of the sunrise as well. Then I enjoy a cup of coffee while I just sit and watch the ocean. A short while later I'll have breakfast then head to the deck for some sun. I may do a few of the onboard activities later in the day. I also like to enjoy a glass of wine on my balcony at sunset.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll say we are not boring. We consider cruising should be relaxed, have some quietness to ourselves. That’s why we are not that keen to go onboard Oasis where we’ll see crowds, shops… We do not care much about the restaurant food but thought was nice to have someone serving us once in awhile.

We took the Hawaii Islands cruise with Pride of Hawaii. It was a beautifully decorated ship. Fortunately I took quite a bit photos before it changed face, what a waste. The dining room service was less appreciated than RC. It was the Freestyle Dining which I am not fancy about and perhaps that cruise, we had two big tables of 20 people, one or two evenings the waiter/waitress had forgotten who ordered what. And the buffet area was much smaller than RC ships (I can only comparing with RCL).

I am an early riser. I always seem to wake up at dawn. DW usually sleeps in. I quietly get dressed, head up to the Lido deck, get a cup of coffee and walk around the ship. Sunrise is so beautiful on the water. the ship is also so quiet and uncrowded that time of day. Later I come back to the room, sit on the balcony with my coffee and read more of whatever book I'm currently reading while enjoying the morning light. DW wakes up and we head for breakfast. We check the newsletter for the events of the day and make plans to attend whatever interests us. At some point we head to the gym for some workout time and to take a steam. Lunch comes afterward followed by sunning, swimming and drinks by the pool. An afternoon nap comes later followed by showers and a late dinner. After dinner drinks and dancing to follow. Wow! I can't wait until June 9th!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

This will be my first cruise with a lot of sea days (4) and three ports. I like to get up early and go to the gym for a workout. I then return to our room as my girlfriend and her husband have ordered breakfast. After we finish and dress we decide what we will do for the day. This time I hope to spend more time exploring the ship as I have read so many reviews about it. Maybe I will find that secret door, or consider the whale tail club thing :)

What I really enjoy doing at sea is getting up early (5:30-6:00AM) and going up to the sky deck and watching the sun rise. Nothing like that sight to make you go WOW. The rest of the day after that is gravy :D.

A good book, kills time till the casino opens, and a good fruit plate completes the morning. This is relaxation at its best.

My husband and I are busy most of the year, he works 10 hour days and I have 2 jobs. Plus 2 kids (almost grown now) a house and everything else to take care of.

We like to cruise because it gives us time to do absolutely nothing....without any associated guilt. The first few times we cruised we felt like we had to go to the shows or classes or games. Then we discovered that just reading a book on our balcony, or taking a walk up on deck late at night, or getting up early to watch the ship pull into port, or any of the other little things gave us more pleasure than trying to keep a schedule.

We may scan the daily newsletter now, just to see if there is anything interesting to us, but the only thing we find we don't want to be late for is dinner! We're not even crazy for the food, but we love the pampering we get each evening by the dining room staff.

If we could afford it, we'd be getting a massage every day.

One of my favorite things to do is get up before the sun, grab some coffee and watch the sunrise while writing in my cruise journal. I look back and read it frequently whenever I need to cruise (since I can't live on a cruise ship!! :D). The only time I don't get up at oh-dark-thirty is the last day. I usually sleep in a little and we have a leisurely breakfast before disembarking.

It's 90 degrees here in MD today. This morning I stood in front of my kitchen window, closed my eyes, and felt the warm breeze on my face. If I concentrated really, really hard, I could ALMOST imagine myself on the cruise!
