independence of the seas Help !!

Recommended Posts

Independence of the Seas is my Hubby's favorite ship of all that we have sailed regradless of cruiseline. That said, and I confess it is quite an endorsement, it is hard to fill you in on the fabulous ship without knowing what you are looking for in a cruise ship and a cruise.

For example, I don't know your ages. I don't know if you are more interested in the amenities of the ship that would appeal to athletes and active folk, or cultural aspects such as the ice skating show and production show, art auctions and even shopping "seminars." Would you be interested in the casino, which is large, colorful, and artfully designed. Would the art and scupture on the ship interest you or the parades down the promionade or the parties in the prominade?

Would the ship's various dining venues interest you? It has everything from Johnny Rockets Diner to the elegant main dinng rooms to the premium restaurants Chops and Portofino. Still, one of our favorite hangouts is the Prominade coffee shop where you can get free sandwiches and coffee or pay extra for fancy coffees. We love to sit there and watch folks passing by.

Are you more interested in night life on the ship or daytime endeavors?

If you have a specific question I would be glad to help and many others here will have opinions too.

I hope you like Independence as much as we did.

Hello

Just off the Independence last week. Great ship lots to do and explore. No real secrets as each cruise is different depending on the group of people that is on at the time.

The trick is getting a feel for the vibe of the ship on the voyage you are on. For example the Disco can ether fill up and be popular early in the night or like on our trip it did not get active till well after Midnight.

The casino and different venues are the same. Ask the Wait staff at any of the bars and you can get a good feel of what scene is active for that week.

In my Opinion the best deck to be on is Deck Seven. If you like to explore you will find that you are spending a lot of your time on deck's 5,4 and 3. This is where the highest concentration of entertainment is located. A short walk down the stairs and your in the center of all the activity no wait for the elevators.

Just get out there and explore all of the decks, lots to see and do and you may just discover you own little secrets.

I don't know if this is your first cruise, but one tip I can offer is that you can get on the ship earlier than your documents say you can. You can head up to the Windjammer for lunch and then your stateroom will be ready to drop off your carryon luggage and you can spend the afternoon exploring the ship while everyone else in embarking.

In the dining room you can order as much (or little) as you like.

If you have a balcony, it is nice to order tea or coffee and enjoy it on your balcony in the early morning.

You can read your daily compass to find out what activities would be of interest for you.

Enjoy the Indy she is a beautiful ship.

Hi Mark, just wondered if you could give us any tips on Cork. We are sailing in May (we have been on the Indy before and loved her like you, and are having a child free mini cruise to Cork!!:D)

Thanks.

We went on the first navigator sailing to cobh a couple of years ago, the ship docks right in the town of cobh and we just had a wander round at our own leisure and a pint of guiness of course!

I had friends that had been to Cork before and wern't impressed so we decided to save the money on the trip to Cork and explore Cobh, Cobh was a really pretty place with a really good atmosphere that day (however this was probably helped by it being the navigators first visit to Cobh as their were hundreds of locals out to wave us in) so we were glad we made that decision.

The train station to Cork was just by the dock aswell which we noticed a lot of people used.
