kids on a 10 day?

I am familiar with the usual count of children (tweens and younger) on the average 7 day cruise on Princess. We have cruised both fall and spring. So what would I expect on the Ruby mid November for a 10 day? I would think that 10 days would be a long time to take kids out of school...unless home-schooled. as well as the cost is a bit more expensive then the 7 day....

Our experience is that there will be a minimum number of kids onboard during normal school weeks unless you have a cruise that includes a major holiday like Thanksgiving. Many of the ones onboard will be home schooled, and will readily tell you they are doing a project on the Caribbean as part of their schooling, if asked.

Even on major holidays we have found children to be non-intrusive on our enjoyment of a cruise. Yes, they will be in the pool at times, and rarely they will be seen running in the cabin hallways, but acknowledging that as normal child behavior is the first step toward acceptance when they are present. Enjoy their exhuberance ! Would that we still had their level of energy. ;)

On the whole, we have noted kids to be well behaved, courteous, and genuinely interested in having a good time, just as you are. Our experience of the exception has been rare. Much of their time is spend in the kids only section of the ship, which caters to their interests.

In comparison to 7 day cruises the last 2 months where they have been 500-750 kids on the ships you'll fine very few if not any in Nov. The 10 day cruises (except for Thanksgiving) attract even less. If you're looking to get away from the kids, its the best choice & time of year to do so.

not really looking to "get away from kids"... was merely just curiosity since this will be our first 10 day cruise. I actually enjoy watching kids and now can sit back and laugh and be one of those... been there done that! :D

Some of this will also depend on if your dates are during Thanksgiving. If they are, there will be a chance of more children onboard, even during a 10 day cruise. Many kids are off school for several days before and after Thanksgiving, so they would only be missing a few days of school on a 10 day cruise with two week ends in there. ;) Good Luck though!

We're going Nov 4th on a 10 day on Ruby. Glad to hear this is the case. Love kids, but there were lots on our April - 7 day cruise on Caribbean Princess from San Juan - as we expected (spring break for many) and they were not all well behaved. I'm talking cannon balls in the adult pool, running the halls, pushing all the elevator buttons, etc. Only time it bothered me was at the adult aft pool. Adults couldn't even get in the pool due to the kids and many complained to the staff in the area and NOTHING was done.

I was on the Crown Princess last week and there were 900 children/teens on board much to our surprise. They took over the ship and no one stopped them. They were in the adult pool - gee we cannot go in their little pool, they were loud in the hallways near the elevators, sitting all over the stairs, and were annoyed if we wanted to get by. The Horizon Court after 11:30 at night - was literally taken over by them - and all we wanted was a cup of tea. Screaming at each other across the room, food on the floor, and kids picking at the food on display - only to play with the food, not to eat it - and a passenger said something, he said, well I like to pick at food.

We have been on almost 40 cruises and this was by far the most instrusive the kids were. We had one parent who told us 'we love cruises, we tell our kids we are at the front of the ship in the morning and in the back in the afternoon if you need us". Have they ever heard of people disappearing on ships - adults - yet, these kids roam the halls without a care in the world. These parents enjoyed their cruise.....

The parents were also allowing the children to have their own tables - entire tables of children ordering dinner. If they came on the ship to have quality time with their children, I wonder when it happened.

If you are going to bring your children on board a ship, follow the rules, and remember this cruise is not all about you. 112,000 tons is simply not big enough when their are children out of control.

I feel sorry for the staff who cannot say or do anything other than endure the 7 days. They are intimidated by them and who is running the ship - Princess or kids? Get your priorities straight!

Did you do your homework before booking this cruise?

After all it was spring break.

On our 10 night cruise, we had over 550 kids, but that was in March, about 3 weeks before Easter. During the time frame you're going, I don't think you'll have too many. All we can do is speculate.

Why not call and ask? It's very simple and they'll give out that information to anyone, even if you're using a TA.

We don't care if it is spring break or not. Bad behaviour is that, bad. Spring break is not an excuse for this behaviour. And by the way, not everyone celebrates the same Spring break.

It used to be that cruises were for adults - and if you are going to be going on a cruise - behave.

We follow the rules, and they should too. Behaviour is learned taught by example.

Hear! Hear! Don't get me started on this topic. We are going on Ruby Princess Dec 4-14/09; hoping for a minimum of kids. There are a few parents out there who think they can just let their kids loose on Day 1 and not see them again until the last day.

Last year during that period on the Emerald there might have been 4 kids on board. :D:p:):D:p

Gee, I've been on cruises with plenty of kids, and only on one of them was there any trouble with kids...and those were all from the same extended family. My girl says those kids didn't participate in the kids' program as she can see. And their parents hankered down in the casino whenever it was opened, from what many passengers noticed. So the kids roamed around the ship, bored. They apparently were also spoiled brats so they didn't seem to feel any reason to behave, unlike the other 225 or so kids onboard.
