Tintown Posted April 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Wondering what is the best way to get from Princess docks in Ft Lauderdale to Miami post cruise?
captainron Posted April 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Hi, I would suggest that if you are staying there for a while, or even if you are catching a flight from MIA vice FLL and have several pax that you book a rental vehicle. You can get great bargains about USD$30-35/day if you dig deep enough. Ciao for now!!!
caribill Posted April 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2009 If you are going to the Miami airport, then a Princess transfer would be the easiest and would cost less than a cab (I assume there are two of you). If you are not going to the Miami airport, then the previous post's suggestion of a rental car is best.
ccrain Posted April 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2009 We just did it. $25 each. Much less than a cab. Our color was called at around 0900 and we were at MIA about 1000. Could have easily caught a flight 1100+. The transfer bus only makes two stops. First one is for all airlines except American. Second is for American. If you fly American you might want to get off and make sure your luggage gets back on the bus if he has to move it off while unloading everyone elses. Putterdude Posted April 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2009 How about in the opposite direction and if a person has lots of time, is there train service or even a boat that comes up the Inland Waterway?
ccrain Posted April 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2009 How about in the opposite direction and if a person has lots of time, is there train service or even a boat that comes up the Inland Waterway? ...but trains require lugging of luggage onto busses and such. No water taxis. We used SAS transport to get from MIA to Plantation, Florida for $60+ tip.
jbrambach Posted April 18, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 18, 2009 I also used SAS from FLL to the Hyatt in Miami pre cruise, it was $15pp one way. The driver was prompt and courteous. Great service.
Arlened236 Posted April 18, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Since United stopped flying direct into FLL we fly into Miami...we usually come in a day early. We found that the Super Shuttle from the Miami airport ( you get ticket at the booth outside the baggage area) No reservation needed...they took us directly to our hotel in FLL prior to the cruise and then the hotel took us to the ship the next day. Cost was $52. for 2 passengers and took about 45 minutes...this was the price in Feb 2009. We took the Princess transfer to MIA on the way back, and we paid for it on the ship. We could not use the princess transfer when we arrived because we came in a day early.
Tintown Posted April 18, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Thanks for that everyone. Still a bit confused though. We are from NZ so don't know the area at all. What is SAS? Also we will be disembarking (3 of us) in Fort Lauderdale, and then going to Miami for about a week afterwards. So we will need transport from the port to our hotel in Miami (don't know which one yet). Thanks.
Konarina Posted April 19, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Really, if you feel comfortable driving on the correct side of the road, a rental car would be much more convenient and maybe even less expensive, particularly if you plan to do much sightseeing around Miami. We are doing the opposite and will have two days in Ft. Lauderdale before the cruise and a rental car will be less than $100 for two of us, picking it up in Miami and leaving it at Ft. Lauderdale airport. Shuttle will take us to the cruise ship.

If you do not need a rental car for your time in Miami, then a taxi or other private van service (I have none to recommend) would be the best option for three people. Thanks. http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/ It provides a summary of the options along with approximate costs and contact information. http://www.ridesas.com Is the address for SAS transport and Steve's email address is: SAS9897@aol.com You can contact him directly for price quotes. Princess charges $25 per person to transfer back to MIA from Port Canaveral. You could easily go back to airport and then take a hotel shuttle from MIA to your hotel. Most hotel shuttles are free. Colo Cruiser Posted April 19, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 19, 2009 As mentioned above if you have the time I would rent a car. You can do a one way rental with no drop fee.
