Big Game Wildlife Refuge in Portage

We are taking a cruise out of Whittier on the Island Princess in June. We are on a land tour before our cruise and will be taking a catamaran from Valdez to Whittier on embarkation day. We are scheduled to arrive in Whittier at 1:00 and the ship doesn't leave until 9:30 PM. We would love to go to the Big Game Wildlife Refuge in Portage. Any ideas on how we would get there? (This is, of course, providing the rock slide is cleared up.:eek:)

And at least you won't have the one-way rental drop-off fee. We are renting from Anchorage to Whittier and paying a drop-off fee.

 

Also, make sure you know the Whittier Tunnel schedule. They only allow one-way traffic at a time, on the 1/2 hour. There is a schedule on their web page at:
