I have a question for the OP about Nassau;

You went to Atlantis, how did you get there? I'm planning to go visit with my 3 kids but I don't want to pay for it, what can we see from free?

When you get off the ship, walk to the end of the dock and you can catch a "land" cab for $4 per person over to Atlantis. They will drop you right at the front door of Atlantis.....or, if you have time for walking, you can take a "water" taxi over which drops you a distance away and you have to walk....I'm guessing you will see more this way. We took the land cab as we didn't have that much time. You can walk around inside the resort....go to the casino, etc....but to get into the digs (or whatever it is called) they said cost $35 per person. Getting into the water park cost quite a bit as well.

Just be adventurous and wander around....trust me....they will stop you if you try to enter an area that cost.

Thanks! I've read a lot on Atlantis and most people say its not worth it...

I don't know, maybe we'll do our first Catamaran/snorkel adventure instead........really don't know what do to with this one:rolleyes:

I know the one time we went over, it was in the evening and the aquarium was free after like 6PM when the guards go home for the day.

(got that little nugget from the Bahamas board in here)

Atlantis has alot of very fancy artwork, statues etc... strewn throughout the place, but the mall in there is basically Rodeo Drive type stores in beverly Hills and the food was ridiculously overpriced. It was $13 for a tiny dish of Mac and Cheese..... (granted the food in Nassau is expensive also, it is an island, but Atlantis was insane)

I know the one time was enough for us.

We always find plenty of interesting things to see and do in Nassau itself, away from Bay St. shopping and the Straw Market. (which is where the majority of people go and get a bad impression of Nassau)

So far we have been 3 times and done a walking tour twice, gotten a daypass at the British Colonial Hilton, twice, gone to the Pirate Museum and gone to Ardastra Gardens and Zoo....

The only let down in Nassau so far was the Pirate museum. It merely OK at best.

Ardastra Zoo is really close to the pier and the Marching Flamingoes show and feeding the Lorry Parrots was alot of fun. (plus they let the Flamingoes walk around the park in between shows.)

http://www.ardastra.com/index.html

Check the link out for prices and see if it might interest your kids...

Have a great time whatever you decide to do...

I know I can't wait to get back to Nassau in September when we take this exact cruise on Fascination.

What a great review! We are taking this cruise August 8th along with 9 others. It will be my son's honeymoon. :pLong story. He is military. Have to do things on the government's time frame and hope for the best. Semper Gumby! After reading your review and seeing the pics I am more ready than ever to go! I have cruised to Nassau several times but this is my first time to Half Moon Cay and I can't wait. My son and his bride to be are thinking about doing the parasailing. I just want to relax by that beautiful aqua water.

Thanks for taking the time to do such a wonderful review!

Thank you for the awesome review. Do you have any pictures of the room? It looks like you had the 1 Upper bed and I was just wondering how the room looked. Crammed, roomy? Thanks :)

It really wasn't bad at all with 3 people....no place to sit except on the beds and you couldn't sit on the bed underneath the upper unless the bed was up....but how much time do you spend in the cabin anyway? We were only in there to sleep and change....

There is only one plug so if you have alot of electronics that will need charging....be sure to take a multi-plug with you.....we didn't and were constantly swapping things.

Here's a shot from the doorway where you can kinda see more of the room. I didn't take any pics of the bath but it was just to the right when you walked thru the door.

And one of the corner the TV was in....we used the space under the TV to hold 2 of our suitcases (ours wouldn't fit under the beds) and the bag for laundry.

You can rent Cabanas on Half Moon Cay for $225 for the day (for up to 4 people). I believe there is an extra per person charge if there are more than 4. They are wonderful. Here's a pic of the one we had.....it was mid-beach. They supply you with drinks, fruit tray, veggie tray, oranges, dips, snorkel equip., float mats, etc.

What kind of drinks? Pop? Or from the bar?

Great review. Thanks.

We did this cruise on 12/13 and, unfortunately, both our sea days were cold and cloudy. :(

But it was beautiful in Nassau and HMC. The water is pretty chilly at HMC in December, but I still get in and splash around. I think we were camped out under a clamshell in front of Cabana #8. It's a great location. Restrooms right behind you; lunch buffet close by; swimming area right in front.

I booked that cruise specifically to go back to HMC for my 3rd visit. I'm not even a "beach person" but I love it there so much. It's just so beautiful.

I'm trying to figure out how I can manage a B2B that does the Key West and HMC itineraries. I may have to do that next spring all on my own. That would be so relaxing!

Thanks for sharing with us.

GREAT REVIEW!! If you had young children, do you think the cabana 7 or 8 would be too far from the children's play area?

I can't say for sure as I didn't pay attention to where the children's play area was......there were floats, etc in the water at the front of the beach and if this is the area....then it is quite a walk to cabana 7 & 8.....too far to be able to keep an eye on them, for sure.

Here's a pic looking up the beach from cabana #7.....

While drinking my coffee...I was trying to figure out a way to make the time SLOW down....it already seemed to be flying by.....never did come up with the secret to that....if anyone else has....I hope they share it with me for my next cruise !

I am a coffee-holic in the a.m. and usually drink several cups while getting ready for the day. My question is - do they bring you a cup or can you request a pot of coffee to come in the mornings?

And...thanks so much for the pictures of your trip. My family and I are headed to the Bahamas on Fascination in July and can't wait. We will be coming to Jacksonville from Birmingham AL the evening before our cruise and I've been looking for a nice - clean, but inexpensive - hotel to stay in, as well as trying to decide whether to choose a park and cruise pkg or to park at the port. Your note on the LaQuinta sounds like a good deal - I wonder if there was any waiting time for them to pick you up when the ship got back into Jacksonville?

Thanks again!

They bring you a pot of coffee.....maybe about 3 cups or so in it....when you fill out your room service request you can just put down how many you need....I only listed as 1 since I was the only coffee drinker.

When we got off the ship, I called the LaQuinta and the desk clerk said he would send the shuttle right over. While we were waiting, there is a little building with someone in it.....she came over to ask if we were with Holiday Inn Express...her job was to get all groups together for the shuttles.....we told her we were waiting on the LaQuinta shuttle and she said that Steve had just left so it would be about 35 mins before he got back.....didn't take that long.....If timing is on your side, it's possible to get off the ship and right on the shuttle.

Thank you, bjc5243, for the review and the pictures. As 1st time cruisers, we have so many questions and you've helped to answer alot of them for us. Besides my husband and I, we will have our blended family of 4 "children" - ages 26, 19, 16 & 11. While I hadn't intended to rent a cabana at Half Moon Cay, I wonder if it might not be a bad idea if we will be there on the beach for the entire day. Only excursion we are planning would probably be parasailing. Was the cabana worth the $200+ dollars?

Again, thank you...I've looked and looked at other discussions and this has definitely been the most helpful! Can't wait!!

We thought that it was ! Very comfortable....and was so nice to have the snacks, drinks, snorkeling masks and flippers (they ask your shoe size when you rent it), mats for floating/playing in the ocean, etc. You can also hide your "stuff" in the cabinets and nobody bothers it.

This was the one thing I really wanted on this cruise. My guys didn't really care about it.....but, at the end of the day, they both said they were so glad that I had insisted on getting one.....made the experience so much nicer !

I think I saw somewhere that it is about $50/extra person....I never saw anyone come around counting though....
