Emerald Princess for Honeymoon?

Hello,

My fiance and I are thinking of booking a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Emerald Princess. The ship stops at Princess Cays, St. Thomas, St. Martaan, and Grand Turk and we'd get a balcony. Our travel agent thinks this is an excellent idea and the ideal cruise for us. We are both 23 and don't really like the party atmosphere on Carnival. I was hoping to get some input from you guys. Is this a good cruise for a honeymoon? Should we consider Royal Caribbean instead? Or a different line? We are really hoping for a cruise thats romantic, good food, plenty to do, nice pools, etc.

Please provide me with any advice you have

I think its an excellent choice. RCI would offer you a slightly more active ship with rock climbing, ice skating etc. But If you disliked the Carnival atmosphere I think you would love Princess. Posters here swear by the Caribe level Balconies which are significantly larger than any other level. - Half covered and half uncovered I believe.

I definately agree. Princess is the perfect ship for romance and the eastern carib is very beautiful, especially St Maarten.

Some suggestions would be, if you are looking for a totally romantic evening with your fiance get the ultimate balcony dinner. There is a charge but worth every penny. Wonderful dinner on your balcony with champagne & wine, attentive servers for just the 2 of you plus other extras.

As the previous poster said the balcony cabins on the caribe deck have the largest balconies. Ask your TA about this.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Just traveled on the Emerald March 2009 and found her to be a wonderful ship. The entertainment was top notch, food good, ,service wonderful. The fresh-water pools can't be beat! If you are taking a 7 day, you will find a very well balanced crowd from singles in their 20's, young families with kids to folks in their 50's and and beyond. I also highly recommend trying to get any balcony cabin on Caribe. The balconies are large and partly covered and that gives you great flexibility and you will also have privacy from the folks on the balcony above looking directly down on you.

Enjoy your honeymoon!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm so glad to hear that people enjoyed the Emerald Princess.

I've been on one cruise before this and it was RCC. My favorite part of the trip was that there would always be musicians by the pool. Does anyone know if this is the case on the Emerald?

We were on the Emerald last month, and the band Exotique often played by the pool. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip, soaking up the sun while listening to fun "cruise music". Best wishes!

My fiancee is 24 and I'm 28, and like you we are not into the party atmosphere--especially for our honeymoon! We took a 10 day cruise to eastern caribbean with Emerald Princess. It was our first cruise and we didn't know what to expect. It was the best honeymoon! We still talk about it! We went to a lot of the same places you're looking at too. The ship is big enough where you two can focus on yourselves, but not so huge that you feel lost. We did anytime dining and that was wonderful. We also dined at Sabatini's one night, which was great. I honestly wouldn't change a thing, Emerald Princess was awesome! We loved the formal nights and I actually won 1200 bucks on one of the formal nights at the casino! Now we're hooked on cruising. This year we're taking Royal Caribbean to Bermuda from Norfolk because we have a wedding to attend in Virginia the weekend we get back, but I would LOVE to go back on Princess in the near future. If you have any questions, let me know, but good luck, congratulations, and totally do it!

We sailed on the Emerald last October on a Trans Atlantic and had a great time. Lots of different things to do and many different types of music to enjoy. Very nice ship and I agree it would be a great ship for your Honeymoon. Another thing I would add to the above suggestions would be breakfast on your balcony. Have a memorable honeymoon.

Last summer my husband and I cruised on Vision of the Seas (RCl) for our honeymoon. They had a party one evening where all the honeymooners got together to share about their weddings and mingled, had cake, and drinks. We got a balcony room so we had privacy outside if we wanted. I also ordered the "Newlywed" decorations which were really cute and a great memory for the scrapbook. Finally I splurged and bought us the "Classic Romance Package"(available through ships gifts & gear). This included a bottle of chilled champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, canapés, breakfast in bed one morning, and a silver-framed, 8" x 10" keepsake portrait.

I've sailed princess as well, and as far as I know they don't offer those little "extras" which made the trip really memorable for us.

Any cruiseline will have it's share of "partiers"--you don't have to participate! That's what's so nice about cruising--you can do as much or as little as you like! Princess sounds like a lovely honeymoon trip! Princess Cay is the "private" beach day---just go and enjoy the scenery and the beach...very relaxing! No need to "buy" an excursion for that!

St. Martin is a lovely shopping port, or you can do the beach thing again---but go to St. John...the water there is unreal! So clear, you can barely see it, so warm, you can barely feel it....it's an amazing beach day!

Get yourself a guidebook on your ports---you will be steps ahead if you read up on where you're going! And, visit the port of call boards on this website....lots of info there, too!

Have a great trip!
