I have had good food on a cruise line. However, it wasn't on NCL.

Casino Player - It seems you've made your point. You may now return to the Carnival board where you seem to be much happier.

I have had good food and bad food and it was on a cruise ship. ;)

Suzyed - Did you try the hot dogs? Never disappointing!:D

I agree with you ... my point is NCL cheerleaders do not allow for any opinion other than their own - Every cruise line has good points and bad points (the quality of the food is clearly one of NCL's bad points - but you have to admit if you want a good itinerary at a cheap price they are the standard)

NCL cheerleaders are not too different from cheerleaders of other cruise lines. Some think there is no such thing as a bad cruise. As you know, I disagree. Some cruise lines do some things better than others. Some cruise lines have really good food. Other cruise lines has things going on and you could have a good time.

How could you enjoy a cruise if every day is almost like a fast day because of the food? Although because of the poor food on NCL it allowed me to go visit a really good resturant when I was in Nassau. How could you enjoy a cruise if you are always argueing with housekeeping because they don't do a good job?

What is good about NCL? My wife tried to call room service. No one picks up the phone. My wife tries to call the pursar's desk, again, no one picks up the phone. Housekeeping leaves dirty towels and washcloths in the bathroom. Housekeeping leaves dirty glasses in room instead of replacing them with clean glasses. Tell me what is good? Why would I want to travel on this cruise line? They were lousey in 2003 and they still are lousey.

At least when I go on cruises I like they replace dirty glasses with clean glasses. And room service answers their phone. And even the people at the pursar's desk are there to answer the phone. On most of the cruises I like the people at the pursar's desk try to help. On NCL, "there is nothing I can do."

Other cruise lines do a much better job at giving cruises than NCL. I will sail with those cruise lines.

I really don't think anyone here is asking you to travel on NCL. You think they're "lousey" so please move on.

You tried it, you didn't like it. That's fine. It's not for everyone -- that's why there are different cruise lines that meet different tastes.

I merely ask that you move on because you're harshing my mellow, dude!:D

Hey Hound, I posted my treasure hunt over on the roll call. How are you doing with yours?

Still working on it. I have the prize -- just need to get on the ship and scope things out. On which roll call did you post the hunt?

I disagree with you. Not all cruises are good. NCL and RCCL are two lines I have been on and they were two of the worst cruises I've ever taken. I was thinking of trying NCL and giving them another shot because of their new ownership. Apollo Capital Management really didn't change anything on NCL.

My wife went on a C-T-N because the birthday lady's daughter liked NCL prior to this cruise and took a lot of cruises with them. She isn't going back on NCL either. I haven't been on an NCL cruise since the diaster of a cruise I was on with them in 2003.

Housekeeping came by and leaves dirty glasses in stateroom. Housekeeping leaves dirty wet washclothes in bathroom. Rooms are small and cramped so housekeeping can't make the bed or change the linen. Dining room service was spotty. No one was there to answer a call in room service. No one was at pursar's desk to answer phone at times. Some of the food had an aftertaste.

Not all cruises are good. On NCL you have to get after them to get them to do the job they are supposed to do. On other cruise lines you don't have to do this.

This angry and repetitive (I believe I've seen this exact same message cut and pasted into many different threads?) person reminds me of a cruiser I stood in front of on my last cruise.

We had just boarded in NYC and I had just been handed a flute of champagne. WHAT could be better? Nothing! So, there I was, humming to myself and enjoying all the hustle and bustle of embarkation day, whilst waiting in line to make dinner reservations. A very red-faced man pulled up behind me and proceeded to complain, in a very loud voice, about what a terrible system NCL had, how it was outrageous that he had to wait in line, etc. etc. I just kept humming and smiling and shaking my head at how miserable people can make themselves and, unfortunately, their travelmates. Poor man's wife and child looked like they were close to tears.

So, unhappy poster, go and peddle your nasty mood elsewhere. Picture a hoard of humming, smiling, champagne-quaffing NCL cruisers shaking their heads at you....that should lighten you up ;).

SH is on the Dawn 2 weeks before me so he is going to hide something and then come back and post clues for us to find it. I stole his idea and did the same thing for next week's cruise when I was on the Dawn for the CTN. I think it should be fun and we're hoping it could become a tradition.

1. There is no such thing as a bad cruise - some are only moderately wonderful, but they're ALL good!

2. Some people are never happy. We had a great deal of fun in Dining areas helping people who were unhappy to feel happier about cruising, rather than obsessing on every minor problem.

3. We are truly addicted! I think after the November cruise on Carnival, we're gonna try an RCL just to see if people really can ice skate on a cruise ship. Why not????

4. For those of you who are offended by this thread ---- let's get a drink of the day and talk about it..........

I disagree with you. Not all cruises are good. NCL and RCCL are two lines I have been on and they were two of the worst cruises I've ever taken. Holy Polar Opinions Batman! To Paraphrase the Law of Physics: For every happy cruiser, there is an equal and opposite miserable cruiser. Having been now on nine cruises in three years, all on NCL, I can say for certain that I am guilty of feeling both sides of that equation. I do agree there is no such thing as a bad cruise--merely less wonderful ones. My Lee and I also LOVE to laugh at the guy who complains about waiting in line and the lack of personnel at the purser's desk.....come to think of it, I don't even know where the purser's desk IS on the Dawn or the Gem.... But I digress... The things I will complain about are conflicting information from the ship staff vs the Freestyle Daily or OTHER ship staff and misinformation when ship staff or the people on the docks at checkin don't have the information they need to answer (or even sometimes understand) your question, they tend to make up an answer that SOUNDS like they know what they're talking about. Like the lady who checked us in, who KNEW we would have to leave the ship on Friday Morning, because on every other cruise you do. She had no idea about the CTN and use the answer she ASSUMED was correct. The folks that were on the Dawn in '07 when we stopped in Grand Cayman. They KNEW our tour was going to wait an unlimited amount of time for us--even though they had no communication with the tour operators. They told us what we wanted to hear so we would shut up about the tender not leaving the ship for like 25 minutes. We wound up missing our tour! That's something to get annoyed about--not so much missing the tour, as bumbling and fumbling the misinformation out to us like it was fact. If ACD Mike had just said, "Look, it's really rough out there. You're probably not going to make your tour." We would've been upset, but we would've accepted it and moved on. But both him and some other parrot were both squawking the company line, "DON'T WORRY, YOU'LL GET THE FULL BENEFIT OF YOUR TOUR." Right. So those things annoy me on the cruises.

Service in the dining room doesn't bother me as much... After all there are 3000 people on board, a good portion of which are in the dining rooms in rotation, all trying to eat if not at the same time, then in pretty much the same window of time. 12-4 is lunch time. 5-10 is dinner time. That's all there is to it. If you're strolling to Grand Pacific (or the Venetian on the Dawn) Main Dining Room at 6:00 pm, guess what? You're waiting on a line that runs from the door of the place, up the stairs and around the corner. That's the way it is. Eat at 9 or 10 if you don't want to wait. Make a reservation if you don't want to wait. The only time I'll take issue with food served to me, is when we're in a premium restaurant like Cagney's or Teppanyaki--especially Teppanyaki where they cook right in front of you. I order my steak Medium Rare. I'll take rare. I'll take Medium. I'll even take Medium Well.... Several small lumps of charcoal masquerading as "medium well" however is unacceptable for the most expensive premium restaurants on the ship.... However, that doesn't make every chef on the boat incompetent.

On excursions, I have been ready to scream at the excursion desk folks. However, My Lee reminded me that weather is not under the tour operators control. However, rushing a tour to cram another tour in, is again, unacceptable.

The rest of it is truly just details. I get embarrassed of my own thoughts when I hear folks complain like this. The guy from Cagney's whose "ears were bleeding" because we were causing such a racket comes to mind. There are things to get upset about on the ship, and there are things to let slide. And, having said that, I think when I'm the ship, I'm going to start taking a breath and proverbally counting to 10 before I let little things upset me.... And to MyLee: if I ever start crabbing about something small on the boat again, show me this post....

And I Thank You.

This is my wife's review of the two day C-T-N. She was actually on the ship. I had been on the Dawn once some years ago and decided not to go this time because I know what a trip on NCL is like.

Boarding the NCL Dawn in Manhattan was a very efficient process for the 2-day cruise to Nowhere on May 1, 09. This gave a false impression of what the service would be like on board. We had poor housekeeping in our stateroom. The used wash cloths were actually picked up from the floor and hung up to dry for us to use again. The ladder leading to the top bunk did not fit in the provided space. I took a photo proving this issue. When we asked to be shown how to fix the ladder to get to the upper berth, we were told that the person sleeping in the upper berth should climb on the pedestal table and jump up from there! We tried to call for room service for 45 min. and no one answered the phone the first night. The next day in the afternoon we did get a reply and received our order within the time promised. The problem was that we only had one napkin for 4 people. The milk, although within the freshness date, was actually sour indicting that the milk had not been stored properly refrigerated. When we complained about these things at the reception, we were told that our problems would be noted in their system and someone was going to contact us. No one ever contacted us. The dining room service was poor except for one dinner in the Venetian room and one in the Aqua. We tried the buffet area and observed very unhealthy actions, sad to say, on the part of some of the passengers such as taking an item with their bare hands then putting it back, drinking from a glass then putting the glass directly touching where the drink would come out of the carafe on the buffet even though there was a sign that advised passengers to please take a fresh glass or cup each time. The buffet area needs more control. We avoided this area. Most of the activities were revenue generating events for NCL. The cruise director, whose name never was made clear to me, just kept announcing to make sure you put down a deposit for a longer cruise before you leave the ship. Since the TV is not interactive, there was no way to check your ship’s account in advance. Therefore a lot of passengers had to line up on a very long and slow moving line to get their accounts corrected. We requested an adjustment in the service fee because we were lacking in some basic services. The Sr and Jr Receptionists told us that management for this particular cruise ruled that no adjustments can be made. The Sr Receptionist, Seth, said that the service fee was mandatory, but when asked that he show it in the contract he could not because the contract terms & conditions uses the word discretionary. I believe that if the service fee is mandatory, the NCL service towards its passengers should be mandatory too. You had to settle your account before leaving the ship. I don’t know how those passengers still waiting on that line ever got done by 9:15 a.m. because the announcement was clear that everyone had to be off by that time on Sunday morning. So as far as I am concerned NCL freestyle means that NCL is free to do whatever it wants regarding service or no service and sadly the choice was no service.

If NCL employees want me back or not is not something I worry about. Since my first NCL cruise I personally have not been on another. My wife went to celebrate someone's birthday. Those people have cancelled their next NCL cruise.

Well, the DW and I have now tried three lines: Carnival, HAL and NCL. I have come to the following conclusions:

Why not????

4. For those of you who are offended by this thread ---- let's get a drink of the day and talk about it..........

touché! :D I agree with you and am not offended, but can we have a DOD anyway????

some folk are just sourpuss's I guess. At any rate, I've never had a bad cruise. I've got 2 this year yet to happen.

Unless the bowels of hell devour the ship, I think both will no doubt be very nice indeed!:D

-Q

or, if the plumbing blows and everyone's bowels are all OVER the ship

that would suck.....

;)

We were once on a cruise with a group of friends. One wasn't at all keen and remained determined to prove his point.

So - the cabin was smaller than a hotel room. You had the same style of food each day. You couldn't spend as much time as you like when visiting cities. Each time he had to wait even a few minutes in a queue he grumbled. Any way a real 'bitcher'.

He even seemed disappointed that he couldn't complain about the service, the cleanliness, the relaxation, the holiday spirit, the constant free coffee/tea/room service etc etc.

At the end, he still wouldn't admit how enjoyable the cruise was .

Some people need to be right above being happy ..... SAD

Love your attitude and couldn't agree more....any day I wake up on the "right side of the grass" is a good day! Everyday is a celebration but especially onboard a cruise:)

:D couldn't agree more

What's not to love? If the food doesn't taste good to you. If the service isn't good. If housekeeping doesn't do it's job and even leaves the room more dirty than they found it.

It's a shame that you had poor service...I just wonder why you would think that all of us here (plus thousands of others) would sail NCL if this were the case all the time (???)

You can read the Carnival , Celebrity boards or any other boards for that matter and see that there will always be someone with complaints that mimic yours, on the lines you love and think are great...Carnival especially. I love CCL to, but the negative posts over there are enough to make your blood pressure soar.

It's a shame that you haven't given NCL or RCI another try...but you are right, it's your choice....

I guess the only issue I have is that although you are free to post whatever you like here, it just sucks that you killed the buzz on this thread.
